Self-proclaimed eternal optimist, Shelley Spruit, is worried about the extreme weather swings and how that effects food production, which of course affects us all. Shortening our food supply chain is a great way to live more sustainably – and grain specifically has a lot of potential to impact climate change. She challenges everyone to make decisions around their food that do not support unethical companies, that support local food production and lower packaging waste.

Did you know that we know more about the surface of the moon than we know about the ocean floor? Our guest was surprised to learn this too. In this week’s Green Room, artist Alana Yang shares the effects of ocean acidification on oysters and coral (and so many other things!). She suggests that young people need to take the lead on climate change, and support research efforts on climate issues. And with all of that, she’s hopeful for the future.

As Canada’s first carbon neutral radio station, Live 88.5 is doing their part to replenish the tree population, and Dan points to the Amazon Rainforest as an example of detrimental deforestation that needs to be stopped.

In this week’s Green Room, Julia wants us to know how to prepare for Ottawa’s future climate conditions – in her words, it's going to be hotter, wetter, and wilder. We could have up to 43 extreme heat days per year by the 2050s! Tune in to find out what we can all do as individuals, and what the city’s plans are to mitigate and adapt. Julia suggests that we work to avoid the unmanageable and manage the unavoidable.

Legislation and money are in the way for a lot of issues, and Alex highlights the impact and importance of civic engagement.
