LadyMsGee and The Gribshnobler are joined by special guest Professor Gerry Canavan, author of Masters of Science Fiction: Octavia E. Butler. We discuss Parable of the Talents, sequel to dystopian science fiction novel Parable of the Sower, along with Butler's life and work in general. Stick around until the end for some mentions of Margaret Atwood, Ken Liu, Cixin Liu, and Isaac Asimov. We also feature some Butler inspired music from T. C. Costello and Black Quantum Futurism with MMGZ. Books are great.

Not even the murky music of Vampire Step-Dad can save you this time. If you make it to the chilling end, you will experience Synthwave, Darkwave, Ghostwave, Experimental Electronic music, Field Recordings, Dark Ambient, Atmospheric Black Metal, and some good old-fashioned Noise. The Gribshnobler shares two different versions of a favorite lengthy dark ambient / drone piece: a cover version by Body 13, followed by the original by Bull of Heaven. In between the music tracks the Gribshnobler shares some insight from Body 13 member Echo Hazard, reads 2 related reviews by Hakita, and ruminated on the different ways people can approach listening to music.

The Gribshnobler returns from hiatus with LadyMsGee for our discussion of season 2 of the TV series The Handmaid's Tale, based on the dystopian (maybe science fiction) novel by Margaret Atwood. Do we think this season holds up in comparison to the book and first season? Listen to find out! Along the way, you'll also hear X-Ray Spex, The Plasmatics, and The Luminaries play some punk and indie rock.

Note: This episode has an explicit rating for language and subject matter.

Correction: We did not play any X-Ray Spex songs in our first Handmaid episode, instead we played "No One's a Little Girl" by The Raincoats.

We are very sad to report that The GribCat, also known as Mr. Titan, has passed away. He was such a vocal cat that he ended up in several episodes of The GribCast and even one of our original songs. In this tribute LadyMsGee joins The Gribshnobler to give some history and reminiscence of the GribCat; his life, his passing, fun memories, his positive influence in our own lives and others. We also share a deleted clip from the previous episode in which Rand Kelly meets Mr. Titan and discusses cats and other pets. At the end we play two songs that remind us of the GribCat, by Willie Nelson and Nobuo Uematsu with Emiko Shiratori.
