Death occurs when the heart stops and breathing ceases and while the brain appears not to be functioning, people who have had an NDE or near-death experience; a lucid structured process with greater consciousness and awareness of themselves in the humanities.

About 17% of people who died while in care experienced a review of their life through the lens of humanity, dignity, kindness and compassion. A judgement of the material things didn't seem to appear, but what was consistent was their evaluation of their ontology. The beingness of being human.

When I began to drown in that capsized plane, I felt my body and consciousness separate. Time did not exist, but what did exist was a profound sense of well-beng and unconditional love.

It was profound experience that has culminated in a 30-year quest of science and spirit to understand my experience of life beyond death.

During this time, I interviewed many people that had NDE's and our experiences had so many similarities. The calm, secure feels, bright light, fields of wildflowers and an overwhelming feeling of unconditional love.

I am not afraid to die.

None of this helped me watch my soul mate being devoured by cancer. Or watch his death, the pain of separation and a reality of a future without him.

But as Dr. Sam Parnia of Resuscitation Research says, "death is not absolute" Not everything can be understood by science.

For centuries man has explored the knowledge frontier, continents, mountains and ocean trenches, upward through the sky and into the universe beyond. And there seems nothing controversial about it.

Yet, exploring the outer limits of our inner experience draws skepticism. When through science we already know that what was accepted yesterday as truth does not always stand the test of time, and yet our beliefs become embedded deep within our psyche.

Until someone we love dies. Then our heart, mind, and soul grasps at what seems beyond our reach. Understanding, are they ok? Are we OK? How will I know..

And yet there are things we do know. Philosopher Joseph Levine called it a explanatory gap. Consciousness according to Professor David Chalmers; "the number one unanswered scientific challenge of our time." He goes on to say that consciousness may not be explainable in the same way that space and time are not explainable. We study the laws that govern them rather than space or time itself.

Why? He goes on, that consciousness may be a fundamental building block of the nature.

So are we chasing ghosts? Or are the ones we love a part of the mysteries of consciousness.

For centuries human-kind has turned away from paranormal studies, intuition, mediumship, clairvoyance. And I did too. It wasn't until my early 20's that I becan to explore things that couldn't necessarily be explained.

And some of it frightened me and I turned away. But after Willis died, I had a deep need to connect with him, and I did.

I connected and set up an appointment for an Akashik Record reading. I knew nothing much about it, but I had met the lady who would read for me. This one reading was beyond my expectations.

This person knew very little of me and certainly had no knowledge of my relationship with my husband. But, she was able to offer me information that was so uniquely personal, that I needed to understand more.

Even more, I had a complete sense of calm afterwards. My believing became knowing at a deep level. I accepted my reality, knowing that there is more to understand about life and life after death.

Four months into widowhood, I have transitioned from deep and painful grief into feeling calm and at peace. I understand my journey is just that, a journey. I feel compelled to help others reach this state of comfort and relief, and so I am reaching out to you again today in love and with empathy for those who grieve.

I was never really good at saying goodbye. In Death, is it good-bye or until we meet again? There is nothing kind about cancer. The diagnosis is painful and brings up many questions and not a lot of answers. As life swings in the balance, the looming potential of death hangs heavily.

And then there is the final good-bye.

In the 10 months, from diagnosis to death, we spend hours talking about life and its mysteries. I wasn't ready on so many levels. He was my soulmate and a life without him, was unthinkable.

His treatment meant painfully long weeks in bed, and so we made use of this time. When he was well enough, we talking endlessly about some of life's regrets and triumphs, about love and family, memories.

And we did more sitting around in the last months of his life than we had done in a lifetime. And it was an endless reminder of what was coming.

Anxiety was constant, in the pit of my stomach, waking with it gnawing at me, it took conscious effort to ease the discomfort in my body and mind and soul.

Even though I had experienced an NDE, which had changed my belief in life after death. It didn't make it any easier to let go. I know now that death challenges our beliefs. There is a difference between believing and knowing that often conflict. I discovered he also believed in life after death, and so I asked him to give me a sign.

He said he would come back as a red winged blackbird, which was he favourite bird as a child. I asked how will I know? I asked, will you rest on my outstretched palm, will you land of my shoulder or sit on the coffee table, how will I know. And he simply said, that I would know..

When he died, I was devastated and those first few days I wandered around the house in a daze. I called out to the sky, send me a sign. I went down to our lake, and I waited for the redwing blackbird to approach. But none of them did. I became more desperate every day. I held my face and hands to the sky and begged for him to send me a sign. A few minutes later, the phone rang and a voice came through, that said, your chickens are here..

Willis had always wanted chickens, but we had ordered them so many months before, I had completely forgotten. So yes, there is humor, and laughter and hope and love, and there are signs, if we take the time.

And there were those days when I struggled, but I know it is not the way forward.

My background in NLP was an asset for sure, I had tools to remove anxiety. I created meditations for his and mine. Understanding how to engage with our mind, to stay in the present in order to cope effectively was essential. Because there was so much to do.

Being in service, or caring for a sick loved one, can be both deeply rewarding but also exhausting. I could hear my own warning to clients, to fill my tank. Think of ourselves as a lawn mower, you will also run out of gas, so be mindful of your needs.

Be mindful of your energy, stress, mindset and fill your self up. A walk in nature, any single minded act: knitting, fishing, cards, reading, journaling, physical activity, cooking, you name it. If it creates an externa focus, it is meditation and it does wonders.

Caregiving demanded so much on so many levels, I would wake up and go to sleep exhausted. The emotional toll could be devastating if you allowed yourself to drop into that pit. And so I made a pack with myself and with you….. to take time each day, to reach out to try to normalize some of our daily routines, in small doses bring in a routine.

Why can it last so long? Why do some people seem to recover, and others struggle? Some stay sad, others angry, others recover, and thrive, but for those who don't, that is a regret.

Possibly they have become their grief.

In the beginning, it can feel so overwhelming, that daily functioning is a struggle. The couple weeks after my husband died, I was in shock. By the end of the 2nd month, I thought I was doing ok. But in my third month, the reality of forever gripped my throat so fiercely, there was no more escaping reality, I bottomed out.

I recall, the heaviness as I woke, massive hot tears roll endlessly from morning till night. My body racked with sobs, shaking and drained.

That day lasted most of a week.

I worked my "program." I forced myself to get out of bed, shower, get dressed. It took effort.

Between waves of grief, I would intentionally focus on "identifying". This simple action shifts the brain from the emotional center to the neocortex, so as not to "feel" so intensely.

I know the mind hacks. I would recite the alphabet backwards, dominating my brain power, thus easing the intensity of grief. FYI, Random numbers work well too.

I employed all the tools of my trade, and I am grateful for the work that came before.

Reframing did wonders to shift my perception. Moments of relief lengthened. I haven't returned to that place and I'm not taking that lightly. I work on myself daily so that I never will feel that depth of despair again.

Inside that well, the quiet was deafening, it was hard to breath, disbelief horrifying, gut-wrenching anxiety, sleepless yet exhausted, the mind-numbing reality. I had never experienced such all encompassing emotion.

And in some way, maybe there is a need to feel the despair, but careful not to get trapped there.

I know it was painful for friends and family to watch, to be there. And I was grateful for the support, especially on those breakdown days. Even though I knew they hurt, I didn't have to many reserves to help them yet. It was just too much.

You will know that everyone who loves us will have suggestions; they can be both helpful and unintentionally unhelpful. Still, sharing of time and heart is never wrong.

I once heard that there are 12 million widows on the planet at any one time, and yet it feels like we are the only one that has experienced a loss so deep, it has stretched me to learn more and to step into helping others recover. The weeks and months following the death of my husband Willis I have reached out to others who are grieving.

Let's face the fact, we are all going to die at some point. We face death of the people we love, but how often do we talk about it?

Surrendering to what is, takes courage. The reality of death, we can not change. At times it can be deeply painful. It may be easier for us to turn away from our pain, locking it away for a while.

The loss of a spouse or a child, may be one of these times, that we fail to help our self. Possibly when we feel we must care for others. Fundamentally this may seem essential, and in certain cases, even true.

I recall working with a lovely woman who had suffered the loss of her husband. She had two young children and she was raising them alone. At some point, I witnessed her lose her ability to cope. Her world crumbled and she was in a state of collapse. As we explored her feelings, she said; I told myself, I would set aside my grief for five years, make sure my kids were ok. And yes, it was five years to the day.

We can run but we can't hide from our grief. We may be able to set it aside, but at some point, we must process our loss and take the time to heal, or I fear we will never be whole again.

There are ways, process our feelings a little bit each day. First, explore beliefs, because they may be hard to reconcile. For example, if we believe of life after death, but they are absent. Believing is different from knowing.

Another way to process, is journaling. Sounds ridiculous? Here is the science. Journaling is a cognitive function which takes place in our neocortex. Emotions are accessed in our middle brain; this brain is active and reactive when we are feeling. Learning to shift our attention into our neocortex eases emotional pain. Identifying things, like emotions or objects is a simple to shift into the frontal brain. Journaling works. And it can be a double win, because writing is a cognitive function.

Journaling may be one simple action of putting your own mask on first. When we understand simple ways to help ourselves, we are respecting our body, mind and souls need to heal.

I like metaphors, so Ill describe self care to owning a car. If you fail to fill the tank, at some point you're going to run out of gas, and then what? I don't have to tell you because you already know, it is easier to maintain your health than to recover your health. So, if this isn't enough for you… do it for them.

And there is power in caring for yourself. The reality is, we must put our own mask on first, and our actions empowers others to do the same.

In David R Hawkings book Letting go

David talks about the unconscious loss of freedom we impose on ourselves when we use the words I can't.

Rather, David encourages us to ask ourselves a bigger question, Why won't I? Behind the bigger question lies our fears underlying I can't.

I know through my experience of drowning in a capsized plane that I can't closed every possible choice I could of had for escape. But moving out of the victim mentality of I can't and into I will, cracked open a video of how to escape a plane that had crashed and overturned in water.

The power of our mind is inescapable if we are willing to open our consciousness to our greatness. The bigger question is what excuse will we use to limit our greatness? in some way; as David says; we have some level of satisfaction in our self imposed excuses. Rather than taking self responsibility and turning on and tuning into our brilliance.

Have you ever felt horrified, heartbroken, frightened and helpless. It is said, that the emotions we feel are optional, in that we don't have to have our emotions derail our lives. But we are human! We have emotions, but consider sometimes our emotions make our problems bigger than they really are, in that moment. Like the, I can't do this phrase, when really it may mean that I feel overwhelmed, I need support, or I don't want to. I can't is a mis-labelled I won't. Explore the real reasons why we feel, and then do the things we do. And then surrender to those feelings and feel the releif flood your body, mind and soul.

Life is a journey, our emotions can sometimes derail us, but that also becomes a choice. Dave R Hawkings gave me the answers this week, surrender. Be aware of your feelings, Stay with them without wanting to do anything, without resisting and allow it to disapate without engaging in any reaction. Letting go is a powerful tool. focus on the energy beneith the feeling. Not the thoughts around the feeling and allow the accumulated pressure to be released. I think of a canner, and that little pressure valave that rocks on the lid. We tool have the pressure release valave and it could be as simple as letting go.

My reset Collective group gave me the same answer; isn't is there for us to witness time and again, the universe really does send us the answers we seek; surrender.

Surrender isn't giving up, it is a active purposeful choice to releave human suffering. Move out of our own way, without needed anything external of ourselves. The answers reside within when we get quiet. Tune into your divine wisdom, find you peace.
