Todays guest on this episode is Marcus Cowzer. Marcus will tell of his Mam and Dads breakup and moving from Dublin to Meath and his love of football and the journeys he made to Dublin to keep his dream of being a pro ball player alive. Marcus honestly shares his life’s journey from a young boy with a promising career as a professional football Norwich to the heart break of a back injury that put that dream to bed.
Doing his best to move on Marcus left school and worked in sales and marketing before meeting through football David Campbell of House of Colour. The two struck up a fantastic friendship that led to Marcus modeling in hair shows and loving the buzz of hairdressing took the plunge to become part of the team at HOC. Growing from a trainee to a stylist was a hard job for this mature young man, but once he got there he soon found his roll in hairdressing as a senior manager and his love of people led to his roll in HR in the company looking after the future talent of the company.
Marcus dads passing had a tough effect of him but unbeknown to him he was suffering mood swings and an uncomfortable time came about in his life. Marcus decided he needed to talk to someone to help understand his feelings and went for some therapy sessions. Through these sessions he got an understanding of what he was going through emotionally and started to be able to handle his emotions through meditation and group therapy.
Marcus really embraced what counseling had done for him, he began to wonder what he could do for others if he trained to be a psychotherapist and off he embarked on the hard work of four years of collage while maintaining a full time job. COVID arrived in 2020 and left Marcus out of work but able to continue his studies remotely. After two hard years of COVID and study he took himself off to Bali for 5 months to look deep into what he wanted from life and to look at people who have a little but are thankful for what they’ve got. On his return to Ireland he has entered his final year in college while working in landscape gardening to pay the bills until he can become a full time therapist.
Finally Marcus will tell us what he’d like the future to hold for him and his quest to help reduce the amount of young men who have suicidal tendencies by offering therapy as a way to overcome their depression.
