Here in Luke Chapter 8:40-56, we find ourselves at this capstone moment of three interconnected stories where Jesus displays his power over sickness and death. A desperate father and desperate woman find their faith fused together in the ministry of Jesus. Two stories, altogether opposite in circumstance, display the beauty of Jesus as he reveals how faith is a showcase of His action, grace, and power.

The book of Exodus is about a group of people on a journey towards freedom in God. We consider the three key words in the ninth Commandment: bear, false, and witness as an invitation to imagine how this commandment points to freedom in Jesus Christ, who offers himself to each of us as a true and faithful witness revealing we are so well known and loved by God, we no longer have to feel the need to lie.

In 2 Corinthians 4:6-12, Jeff teaches that our humble recognition and acknowledgment of our own weakness and brokenness is often the channel through which God’s power is made most manifest in our lives.

Matt takes us through Matthew 4:23-7:29. Often, we do not readily recognize the Jesus as God’s divine teacher who has authority to define how we are to live. Here we see The Messiah-teacher gives instructions to his kingdom people regarding a life of greater righteousness in the kingdom of heaven.

The early church was facing a time of great persecution which led to expansive growth through the unquestionable presence of the Holy Spirit.

The book of Habakkuk is an honest dialogue between the prophet and God on Habakkuk’s struggle between what he knows about God and what he sees around him. Real questions like, “How can God be just when He doesn’t seem to care about His people?” are met with answers by God Himself. Speaking comforting truths, Habakkuk shows us what it means to know God in his character and his timing; and how all his actions find fulfillment in His Son Jesus.

This sermon is being preached to people like me, the Christian who has read this passage hundreds of times. It starts with an impossible ask – to be perfect – which is only possible with Jesus. It goes on to tell a story of compassion. Compassion that: takes action, is universal and comes from Jesus’ resurrection alone.

Cory teaches on Revelation 21:1-8. Faithful Christians will reign with Jesus in the new creation as in Eden. The mainstream narrative about “going to heaven when I die” is only part of the full biblical story. Looking at Rev 21:1-8, we see through the OT references that John is describing a renewed creation of both heaven and earth, and that the faithful believers are again given the mandate as in Gen 1, to rule the earth on God’s behalf. Understanding this ancient and enduring call means that Christians now should be engaged in that task as we wait for the life to come.

Romans 8:28-39 outlines how God’s sovereignty in the Christian's salvation should shape how Christians are to live as conquerors daily. In light of God’s work saving us completely, we can live with great courage and hope. This perspective ought to shape how we face all of life, especially difficult circumstances.
