We kick off a new mini series on the 5 Solas with a discussion about the doctrines which really captured the whole ethos of the protestant Reformation, beginning with a study on Sola Gratia - "by grace alone we are saved."

In the final instalment of our series on the down grade controversy we cover Spurgeon's withdrawal from the Baptist Union and subsequent letters in the Sword and Trowel, December 1887 - April 1888.

We now come to the crux of the downgrade, which escalated towards the back end of 1887. Spurgeon writes three articles in the sword and trowel, doubling down on his assessment of the state of the Baptist Union and responding to his critics. We look at what happened to Spurgeon when he spoke out and draw parallels between his day and ours.
