We all have cravings from time to time, and we try to appease those cravings (within reason). But even following our most heartfelt longing doesn't really leave us feeling satisfied. It is only in seeking God's righteousness will that we can be filled and truly, deeply satisfied. In this message we talk about the fourth Beatitude: "God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice (righteousness), for they will be satisfied." —(Matthew 5:6). Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. -- Matthew 5:5 (NKJV)

Meekness is generally equated with weakness, but it means quite the opposite. Meekness is power under control. Being meek is not the same as being weak; it is demonstrating God’s power under control.

At any time on the way to the cross, or even from the cross, Jesus could have used His power to call down legions of angels to defend him. But He didn't. This is meekness. It took unimaginable strength to take the punishment for our sins when He, Himself, was completely innocent.

Watch this message, "Meant to be Meek", to see what it looks like to be meek in this world. After you do, you may ask God to show you these three things:

🔹 Where in my life do I need to be clothed in humility?
🔹 What worry or care in my life do I need to cast upon You?
🔹 What part of my life do I need to let go of in order to follow You?

The second Beatitude in Jesus' Sermon on the Mount is: "God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted." (Matthew 5:4 NLT) The Greek word for mourn here is Penthéō, and it means, "To grieve over a death; to grieve over a personal hope that dies. A manifested grief so severe it takes possession of a person and cannot be hid." Have you felt this way? Are you grieving now?

Everyone wants to be happy. Everyone wants to be blessed. Jesus presented some values that describe a life that is blessed. The problem is, these values are not of this world. They are upside down and backwards. In this series we’re going to walk through eight values Jesus taught called “The Beatitudes”. At the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus gives us the most important point first, that we are to be poor in spirit. We generally like for people to know as little about us as possible. We are afraid to admit our doubts, our fears, our worries, and our sins. We are afraid to live naked. But that is the opposite of what God has for us. He wants us to live naked so we can experience His love and hope and peace.

Sarah laughed at God when He said she was going to have a baby. Certainly she was too old! The Prodigal Son decided to go back to his father in the capacity of a slave. Certainly he had made too many mistakes and was too full of shame to be restored as a son! Zacchaeus was a notorious sinner who just wanted to get a peak at Jesus, but Jesus wanted to go to his house for dinner. Certainly Zacchaeus was too rich and set in his evil ways for God to turn him around and use him. 

It's never too late to turn to God. You are never too young or too old, too full of sin or shame, too weak or downcast, or too far gone for God to fill you up with His love and turn you into a new creation. God wants to give you a full and abundant life and to use you to touch the lives of others with His overflowing love. Life is short...very short. The Bible has many, many verses that talk about the brevity of our lives, like Psalm 39:4-5:

LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered — how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.

King Solomon, who wrote the book we are studying in this series, Ecclesiastes, was most likely the wealthiest man to ever live. He had it all. Everything money could buy, he had it. And yet he writes this in Ecclesiastes 5:10-11, 15:

“Those who love money will never have enough. How meaningless to think that wealth brings true happiness! The more you have, the more people come to help you spend it. So what good is wealth—except perhaps to watch it slip through your fingers!…We all come to the end of our lives as naked and empty-handed as on the day we were born. We can’t take our riches with us."

There is nothing inherently wrong with money. There's nothing wrong with even having lots of money. The problem is when money has us, when we long for it and believe that it can provide us with happiness and meaning. But while money can never provide me with meaning, I can find a meaning in money.
