It seems that many people are confused on what deaf can do and can't do. A simple Google search starting with "can deaf people..." will bring up a list of search suggestions that seems very...interesting (which you can see in the shownote).

So I thought this would be a good time to talk about what d/Deaf people can do and dispel any myths that anyone may have about us.

As someone who is creating videos and audios on consistent basis, there is a huge challenge for me as a deaf content creator to deal with the audio aspects of it.

I mean, how do you deal with audio if you are deaf?

I go over a couple of points on what I do to make things easier for me, but not without admitting that it will never be 100% perfect and how I would like it to be, simply because I can't.

But just because you can't do it as well as others, it doesn't mean you stop and give up, as you can still find alternative ways to make it work for you.

In this episode, I talk to Kate Llewellyn-Waters, a businesswoman who has lost her hearing after getting pregnant. She opens up and shares her own story on how that happened, why it happened, her on-going challenges as a mother and shares advice to any other parents going through something similar.

Part of the reason why I do this podcast is to hear from different people's experiences and perspectives, and this one is something that I didn't know that could happen; being deaf because of pregnancy.

Instead of talking about the benefits of learning sign languages and why you should learn it, I want to talk about my own personal reasons on why I want to learn sign language. And in this case, it is British Sign Language, or BSL.

Because as much as everyone has their own reasons and there are many benefits to learning any languages in general let alone sign language, I have my reasons which I explain in this podcast.

After recently experiencing of a listening to a podcast by a well-known person, and from years of similar experiences from a number of podcasts and videos, it's time to call it out if you are not providing transcripts or captions to your content.

Since I have less patience about bad quality content and experience, this is an opportunity for me to call it out on people who don't make their content accessible. But it's not just about making it accessible because you feel like "you have to", but you will get a lot of benefits out of it too.

I can tell you from experience that the positives of providing transcripts/captions far outweight the negatives.

I've been seeing and hearing a lot of stories about how Deaf people who are about to undergo surgery to have a cochlear implant are apprehensive and nervous for 2 reasons. The first is because it involves a surgery, which is a valid reason. The second is because of a potential backlash from the Deaf community, which is something that I struggle with.

Personally, I think it's your decision to do whatever it is that helps you. But I'm also curious to hear more from different about their decisions to have a cochlear implant and also from those who are completely against it.
