  • When Seeing Potential Becomes Self-Abandonment

Have you ever reached the point where you stopped caring, not because your feelings disappeared, but because your trust did?

Sometimes we become so invested in who someone could be that we ignore who they're consistently showing us they are.

In this episode of The Heartbeat Project, Katpoetik explores emotional detachment, self-abandonment, broken trust, and the uncomfortable accountability that comes with healing.

Are you protecting your peace, or have your defense mechanisms convinced you that detachment is healing?

Because seeing someone's potential should never cost you your own progress.

    Sincerely, Katpoetik

  • The Love We Keep Outsourcing

A deep conversation about self-love, healing, relationships, self-worth, heartbreak, attachment, boundaries, and emotional validation.

Why is loving ourselves sometimes harder than loving everyone around us? The Love We Keep Outsourcing explores why we seek reassurance through relationships, how rejection can shape our identity, and what it really means to choose yourself without becoming closed off to love.

Because self-love isn’t about needing nobody. It’s about never having to lose yourself just to keep somebody.

  • I Still Feel Everything, I Just Don’t Bleed for It Anymore

People often mistake silence for detachment and acceptance for not caring. But what if walking away quietly isn’t proof that you feel nothing, but proof that you finally learned how to feel without abandoning yourself?

In this deeply personal episode, I unpack what almost a decade of over-loving, over-explaining, chasing, forgiving, and trying to prove my worth taught me about boundaries, emotional exhaustion, relationships, and healing.

I still love deeply. I still grieve. I still miss people. I still feel rejection, disappointment, and heartbreak.

I’ve just stopped handing my emotions the steering wheel.

Healing didn’t make me heartless. It taught me that I can miss you and leave you alone. I can love you and respect your boundaries. I can be hurt by your decision without trying to change it. And I can walk away without turning an ending into evidence that I was never enough.

There’s still an ocean behind these ribs.

I just don’t drown anymore trying to prove how deep it is.

    Sincerely, Katpoetik

  • I Felt the Goodbye Before You Left

What happens when you become so accustomed to pain that peace feels unfamiliar?

In this episode, I unpack the emotional exhaustion of living ten steps ahead, anticipating heartbreak before it happens, grieving people who are still present, and questioning whether that feeling in your chest is intuition, anxiety, or a defense mechanism built from everything you've survived.

There’s a difference between healing from pain and simply becoming immune to it.

I’m learning that I don’t have to rehearse every goodbye just to survive the possibility of one. I can recognize patterns without writing the ending. I can feel deeply without allowing fear to become prophecy.

Because maybe healing isn’t learning how to feel less.

Maybe it’s learning how to stop grieving everything twice

  • When Protection Becomes a Prison

What happens when the walls you built to survive start keeping out the very connection you crave?

In this episode, I unpack the complicated space between vulnerability and self-protection. I reflect on a time when I was open to people, ideas, and love, until being open hurt deeply enough to change the way I connected with others.

We explore emotional shutdown, nonchalance, defense mechanisms, familiar chaos, boundaries, and the difficulty of trusting again once someone makes you feel like you have to protect yourself from them.

Sometimes survival teaches us how to build walls, but healing teaches us where to place doors.

This episode is about learning that I don't have to become cold to protect myself. I can love deeply, forgive without restoring access, set boundaries without creating barricades, and become wiser without losing the softness that makes me who I am.

Maybe healing isn't becoming who you were before the pain.

Maybe it's becoming someone the pain no longer controls.

    sincerely, Katpoetik

  • Rebuilding from Destruction

In this episode, I take you behind the lyrics, breaking down the metaphors of rivers, walls, prisons, wounds, and rebuilding stone by stone. I explore what happens when the walls we once built for protection eventually become the same walls keeping us from freedom.

This is about forgiveness without forgetting, accountability without self-condemnation, and learning that healing doesn’t always mean returning to who you used to be.

Sometimes you don’t get the old version of yourself back.

    Sometimes you meet someone new.

From bleeding out the poison of the past to crafting wounds into stories of grace, Rebuilding From Destruction is about reclaiming your voice, your identity, and your ability to decide what gets built next.

    Sincerely, Katpoetik

  • Spilled Milk (LYRICS)

I Finally Learned to Swim” is about the moment healing becomes accountability. It’s the realization that while life may have wounded you, survival sometimes taught you to abandon yourself in the process. This song explores grief, self-neglect, misplaced love, and the painful clarity of looking back at who you became just to make it through. Ultimately, it’s about choosing yourself without bitterness, reclaiming the strength you once poured into everyone else, and learning that healing isn’t being rescued from the water. It’s finally learning how to swim.

    Sincerely, Katpoetik

  • SPILLED MILK (MEANING BEHIND THE LYRICS)

“I Finally Learned to Swim” explores what happens when you spend so much time making everyone around you feel safe that you slowly become a stranger to yourself. Spilled milk represents more than regret. It symbolizes the emotional weight we minimize, the tears we tell ourselves aren’t worth crying, and the exhaustion that builds when we continuously pour into others while neglecting our own needs.

I wrote this song from the realization that sometimes drowning doesn’t look like falling apart. Sometimes it looks like functioning, forgiving, enduring, and giving everyone else grace while quietly running out of breath yourself.

Learning to swim became my metaphor for choosing myself. Not because the past disappeared, but because I finally understood that healing wasn’t about waiting for someone to rescue me. It was about learning how to stop abandoning myself while trying to keep everyone else afloat.

“Spilled milk on the floor, but I don’t cry like before.”

The mess may still exist. The memories may still hurt. But they no longer get to drown me.

    Sincerely, Katpoetik

  • Before I Fly (Meaning behind the lyrics)

I wrote this song for the space between healing and becoming, that quiet chrysalis where you’re learning to love again without losing yourself. It’s about realizing that not every powerful connection is meant to become permanent, and protecting your peace doesn’t mean you’re afraid of love. Sometimes transformation requires surrender, discernment, and trusting God enough to choose yourself when staying would cost you who you fought so hard to become.

    Sincerely, Katpoetik

  • Before I fly (lyrics)

Before I Fly is about the healing that has to happen before transformation can truly begin. Before the wings, there were tears, wrong turns, self-abandonment, and lessons in learning how to swim instead of waiting to be rescued. It’s the journey of reclaiming my strength, forgiving who I used to be, and choosing myself before stepping into who I’m becoming. Because before I could fly, I had to learn what transformation meant for my growth.
