The Heavy Hitter DJs Podcast

Houston in the house. DJ Aggravated started in 1985 on belt drives in his dad's garage, cracked the mic at Magic 102 with 1.5 million people listening, and made slab tapes loud enough to rattle MacGregor Park. Plus record shopping next to DJ Premier, the name that almost was Aggravated Assault, and the night the Heavy Hitters brought him in like it was the mob.

DJ Eddie One has worked every shift on LA radio except midday. Street promoter first, late-blooming DJ second, he flew home from Puerto Rico in 2005 with a bag of reggaeton CDs and built a lane nobody else on the West Coast had. Now he runs mornings on Mega 96.3, streams the whole show from a shipping container in his backyard, and DJs for LAFC.

DJ Ryan Wolf never planned to be a DJ. Church soundboard kid. Chopped and screwed hustler. Top salesman told he didn't look the part. He kept the beard, filled in for a friend one night, and ended up on Z107.9, in the ChopStars, and on the field as the first official DJ in Cleveland Browns history.

DJ Carlito wanted in for fourteen years and chased it for six. He covered overnights for $14 an hour, worked 23 days straight, and kept saying yes until La Mega 97.9 handed him afternoons. The fellas get the whole run, from carrying speakers in Bushwick to the promise he made at Remy Lounge.

Laura Stylez moved to New York with no family, three jobs, and one plan: get on the radio in the number one market. Twenty-seven years later she's a Heavy Hitter, a 12-year morning show voice, and independent with Ebro and Rosenberg. Camilo and L. Boogs get the whole run, from answering Monie Love's phones to telling Enuff she was booked more than his DJs.

Coro King hid in a freezer so a Providence bar could keep its DJ. Then he built a streaming following that flies in to see him and books him for Thanksgiving. Born in East New York, made in Rhode Island, rebuilding in Miami. Enuff, Camilo, Kast One, and L. Boogs get the whole story.

DJ SpinKing was supposed to be a pediatric doctor. His grandfather practiced medicine in Guyana, SpinKing interned at Englewood Hospital for two years, then he crashed his brother Celeb's car at 16, got grounded, and found the CDJs in the basement. His parents did not approve. They told his brother Star that if SpinKing failed, it was on him. He sits with DJ Enuff, DJ Camilo, DJ Kast One and L. Boogs and walks through all of it: the Jersey hotel ballrooms they got thrown out of, two years on the road with Diggy at 18, ProStyle playing "Tap It" while he was still on the high school basketball team, "Timeless" and the 6ix9ine record charting at the same time, opening Madison Square Garden for Cardi B, and the night he DJed Pasha with no mic. Jessy and Uly Terrero built a two-decade run out of closed doors. Juice, 25 videos with 50 Cent, Rompe, Un Beso, Soul Plane, Nicky Jam: El Ganador. It starts with a lie about lost car keys and an 8 1/2 hour drive to Canada on caffeine pills.

DJ Sharad walked into his first meeting with DJ Enuff holding a 12-page PowerPoint. Graphs. Charts. His wife made him do it. Enuff spent the next few years quietly terrified of him. This week the Heavy Hitters get the whole story, plus the $10,000 studio design a rapper took and had AI rebuild.

The fantastic trio. Kast One, Enuff and Camilo hold it down while L. Boogs defends his title as the greatest ghost in the game.

Enuff watched Fuerza Regida turn Citi Field into a hip hop show, 50 Cent and Bobby Shmurda included. Camilo unplugged in Aruba, climbed 740 steps in Guatapé, and came home to run earthquake relief for Colombia. Kast One jumped into Antarctic water in swim trunks, because his wife went first and everybody was watching.

Then Complex left Big Daddy Kane off the greatest beats list, and nobody in this room is getting over it.
