I finally had the opportunity to sit down with Speedy Sheppard. Speedy is a former Semi Professional football player, a personal development coach, an author, a brand ambassador, an entrepreneur, and the host of his very own podcast The Speedy Tribe Podcast. Speedy was born and raised in Passaic, New Jersey where he experienced drugs and violence. These experiences gave speedy the drive he needed in order to break his family's generational curses and that started with football. Speedy played football as a child all the way into college where he received his bachelors degree. He even played semi pro football. After months in isolation and working on self, Speedy knew football was not his purpose. Through several experiences in his young adult life, Speedy knew he was different. He knew he was positively impacting people's lives. This led him to become a personal development coach where he does speaking engagements and 1 on 1 consultations. So much experience, yet he's only in his mid twenties. Speedy really is different.

I'm officially back with another epic conversation with a young up and coming professional calisthenics athlete. This future pro goes by the name of Timmy. Timmy is a swim instructor who practices calisthenics with a little bit of weightlifting on the side. In the past, Timmy struggled with alcohol but overcame that addiction and began to focus on his physical and mental health. He started with basic calisthenics where he eventually realized he wanted to take the sport more serious where he practiced muscle ups and front levers. Timmy is very knowledgeable in calisthenics and overall fitness. His future is bright. You may not know him now but you will soon enough.

Fasting has been around for centuries. Our ancestors, who had to hunt and fight for their food everyday, went without food until the next opportunity to kill their food arrived. Fasting is well known in religion where followers fasted to cleanse their bodies for their god. Today, fasting is a popular fad most commonly used for weight loss purposes. I've fasted in the past and today I continue to fast on and off. Weight loss is a benefit of intermittent fasting along with many other benefits. However, fasting comes with plenty of cons such as binge eating after breaking ones fast, and can cause an eating disorder just to name a couple. Using fasting for weight loss is setting the wrong intention. If you fast, set positive intentions such as goals of cleansing the gut and clearing the mind. If your goal is weight loss, a caloric deficit throughout your day is a better option. Fast smart. Fast wisely. Fast responsibly.

What is purpose? Do we seek purpose or does purpose find us? Is purpose even a real thing? Do we need purpose to feel fulfillment? To feel happy? I have no idea. But I like the idea of having a purpose and feeling fulfilled and happy throughout life. Many of us claim to be happy. Many of us claim to have found our purpose, but many of us don't even believe that ourselves. Whether you seek purpose or are waiting for purpose to find you, just enjoy the journey. Life is a journey. Life is long. Life is short. Life is purpose.

Have any of you ever wondered where you'd be today had you not quit? Had you not given up? Had you never walked away? I tend to wonder where I would be today if I never quit baseball. Or if I never stopped my clothing line production. I've worked over twenty plus jobs and none of them lasted more than two years. This made me feel like a quitter. I was notorious at quitting and walking away from people and relationships. I know I'm not the only one. Many of you can relate.

As of 2020, the U.S. adult obesity rate stands at 42.4%, the first time the national rate has passed the forty percent mark.  The rate of childhood and teen obesity (ages 2-19) is at 19.3%. This is an epidemic that will worsen and changes need to be made. Adults need to make better choices. Parents need to teach healthy eating habits to children. It won't be easy but it's not impossible. Change your lifestyle. Eat better. Eat clean. Move your body. Lift heavy. Go for a run. Go for a walk. Cut back on all consumption. You will feel better. When you feel better, you do better. Surround yourself around high energy, healthy, positive people. Improve your quality of life. We are in this together. Together we can go far.

In this episode I sat down with athlete and workout efficiency engineer Igor of Zero Gravity Training. Igor was born in Siberia and raised in Latvia where he played sports and studied martial arts. Igor moved to the United States over a decade ago where he got into weightlifting and eventually bodybuilding. Over time, Igor came to the realization that bodybuilding no longer served him and was detrimental to his health. He eventually found functional exercise such as calisthenics and kettlebell training. Today Igor competes in the sport of calisthenics and designs programs for practical human performance, longevity, and health. Igor speaks strongly against the "fitness" and supplement industry. He holds nothing back. This conversation is raw and unfiltered.

I was blessed with the opportunity to sit down with boxer, coach, and entrepreneur Peter Roldan. Peter spent most of his childhood fighting in school and in the streets which led to serving time in detention centers and group homes. With support from his family and plenty of time to think, Peter knew he had to turn his life around and through all of this adversity he faced and programs he had to attend, Peter found boxing. He developed a love and passion so deep, he immersed himself in the sport, trained hard, trained consistently, sharpened his skills, fought in tournaments and became a NJ Golden Gloves Champion along with other accolades. Peter is currently training for an upcoming tournament and is also a boxing coach during his free time. Along with his training and coaching, Peter is also an entrepreneur with businesses in holistic health (Nature's Medicine Apothecary), fitness (Body Snatcher Fitness), and promotions (Body Snatcher Promotions).

I've hit plenty of mental walls back in the day and sometimes I still hit mental walls. Sometimes I go through these mental funks. We all do. It's human nature. These mental funks have the power to keep us in bed. They have the power to keep us from moving our bodies and engaging with people. Mental funks even have the power to put us in a state of depression. Never let the mind control the body. The body should always in control. We have to keep pushing through. We have that ability. We are optimal human beings.
