The Highlight Real episodes

  • 16 | On to Better Things!
A time to transition! In this episode, I discuss moving back to Cincinnati, Ohio after living in Columbus, Ohio for the past year. I learned and experienced many things while living in Columbus and I reflect on that in this episode. I also take some time to discuss how I feel relaxed and excited about this new chapter in my hometown! With this transition come many opportunities and I'm ready to make the most of them! Remember: when you try new things and it doesn't work out, try to look at it as a reassessment instead of a failure! Perspective is everything!

  • 15 | Cheers to Growth!
Reflection is important. In this week's episode, I take the time to reflect on how I've grown over the year that I've lived in Columbus, Ohio. There have been plenty of trials and tribulations since I first moved here. All of these experiences have helped to mold me into the man that I am today. I take the time to detail what some of those trials and tribulations were and some of the valuable lessons I've learned along the way. While things haven't always been easy, this past year has definitely been a worthwhile journey that I feel was necessary for me to progress as a person. Tune in to this episode to hear about my growth over the last year!

  • 14 | Collaboration leads to Inspiration
In this episode I discuss how working with others can lead you to be inspired! Recently there have been some times when I have not been as motivated to work or create. As soon as I get to work with others and collaborate on something I care about - whether that be sharing ideas, brainstorming, talking out loud, etc. - I have realized that I tend to come out of these conversations and collaborations feeling more inspired! I think this can definitely be used as a cheat code when you are in low spirits especially when it comes to creating. I discuss how and why these collaborations have led me to feel more inspired. As the old African proverb goes, "If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together." Collaboration leads to inspiration and enables you to go further!

  • 12 | House Music and a Renaissance?

In this episode, I take the time to provide some brief background history on house music and what it may mean for music going forward. With heavyweight artists like Drake dropping his recent Honestly, Nevermind album and Beyonce announcing her upcoming Renaissance album with a new single Break My Soul, a lot of music in America may become much more upbeat again. I think this is an interesting topic to discuss and will be an interesting topic to monitor going forward. I felt that providing some history to add context to this discussion would be important as the conversation moves forward. Did you know the history of house music? What do you think of the recent music from these two artists? Tune in to hear my thoughts and more!

  • 11 | What does Juneteenth mean to you?

In this bonus episode, I took the podcast outside!! This episode was recorded at a Juneteenth cookout to ask people some questions about the holiday and what it means to them. You'll hear many different (and hilarious) explanations and meanings for Juneteenth amongst these guests because this holiday means many things to many people! I wanted to use this episode to capture some of the black joy that I witnessed as I attended this Juneteenth cookout! With this year being the second year of Juneteenth being recognized as a national federal holiday, I knew it would be important and valuable to capture this moment. You're sure to be entertained AND educated in this one! Tune in!

  • 10 | Show Grit, But Don't Quit
I wanted to take this episode to highlight that we made it to 10 episodes! It may not seem like much but that's an accomplishment! Meanwhile, I've been able to notice that chasing your dreams and goals is not easy! With this episode, I want to provide a quick but encouraging message about why you should not give up on yourself or your dreams. Life isn't easy. If you want something worthwhile, it won't be easy getting there. In situations like these, you have to show some grit and make sure that you do not quit! There are people that are waiting on you. There are people that NEED you! When you give up, you are also choosing to let down those that care for you and love you dearly. There are also people waiting for you to give up, prove them wrong! We all need encouragement sometimes and this episode is here to encourage you! Show GRIT, but DON'T QUIT!!

  • 9 | Check Out to Check In
In this episode, I discuss checking out from everything that is going on with the world to check in with yourself. With June being Men’s Mental Health Month I think it’s important to discuss taking a break to take care of yourself and your mental health. It’s important to do so and take a break when you need to because social media can definitely weigh you down and drain your energy! Whether you’re taking a walk, reading a book, or talking to people you love, it’s important to take that break when needed. Social media will be there when you get back! Take the time you need for you.

I also recently turned 23 and reflect on this refreshing time in my life as well. I plan to improve for myself and others going forward and I discuss some of my goals for 23!
