  • EP 68: From Rage To Sage with Lou Ann - Part 2

Rather than do the covert hypnosis, like Traci does with most of her Hilarious Hypnotist sessions, she opted for traditional hypnosis due to the amount of baggage Lou Ann was carrying. In this episode, we find out how Lou Ann did immediately after her hypnosis session, and tie up some of the loose ends.

Episode Highlights: Lou Ann shares bits of her experience in the hypnosis session, including seeing "pink bubbles." Traci creates an anchor and a trigger for Lou Ann, to help lock in the changes for permanence. Traci relates a story about her "fire" and "water" meditations from her Kabbalah studies. Lou Ann and Traci discuss boundary settings.

  • EP 67: From Rage To Sage with Lou Ann - Part 1

Lou Ann, like many of my clients, had a crappy childhood. And while she's done a lot of work on herself, she is still carrying the anger of those experiences over 60 years later! You won't believe how Traci begins to clear 60 years of crap in 60 minutes or less.

Episode Highlights: Lou Ann reveals personal details of her upbringing: she was verbally and sexually abused and explains how she became very angry at Jesus for saving everyone else but her. Tired of the abuse, she moved away at 17 with the help of some friends. Lou Ann admits her upbringing made her strong, and that she doesn't use a man for anything. Lou Ann tells how she helped 15-20 people transitioned from life to death in her arms.

  • EP 66: Standing Up For Yourself with Amy - Part 2
WARNING: THIS EPISODE DEALS WITH ANIMAL ABUSE THAT MY CLIENT WITNESSED AS A CHILD AND MAY BE UNSUITABLE FOR SOME VIEWERS/LISTENERS. As Traci and Amy complete Amy's checklist with her unfinished business with her father, Traci points out that Amy had to learn how to stand up for herself, and now she can guide her father in helping him stand up for himself. Amy begins to look forward to starting a new relationship with her father...and maybe picking up a job at the record store she worked at in high school. While going through her notes, Traci decides to clean up some loose ends regarding Amy's mother's former boyfriend, which uncovers a long forgotten memory involving animal abuse that took place when they were drunk. We realize not all viewers want to hear this, so this section is clearly marked in the video and audio. As a final clean up, Amy tells Traci she plans to walk out on her boyfriend's talk about "Friendship" at their next Toastmasters meeting. Traci encourages Amy to stay and listen, and follow up with her talk about Honesty and Trust.

  • EP 65: I Am Enough with Amy - Part 1

Amy is back for her fourth session (see EP 17, 18, 45, 62, and 63). Faced with six deaths in seven months (including her beloved dog of 15 years, and her step-mother), unable to find a job for 2 months, and reeling from the break up of a 5 month relationship, Amy is now leaving her beloved community in Florida to help take care of her dad. The problem is...she has unresolved issues with him stemming from childhood. At one point, Amy was in a serious car accident with a head injury. Due to a major disagreement between Amy and her step-mom, Amy's dad asked Amy to leave because he couldn't afford a divorce. When comparing all of the issues Amy brought to the session; unfinished business with her dad, unfinished business with her mom and her boyfriend that used to abuse Amy and her sister, and the break up with her boyfriend, Amy checked in with herself and the message was "I am not enough." Traci then proceeds to go down the checklist, and knock out each of her triggers one by one.

Episode Breakdown – Amy's Journey of Loss, Trust, and Healing

    • Amy recalls her sister's abuse by their stepfather Ron, his imprisonment, and the trauma's lasting impact.

    • She reflects on her alcoholism and how abuse and neglect shaped her coping mechanisms.

    4. Self-Worth and Body Image

  • EP 64: Leveling Up with Lori Ann Video

In this episode, I catch up with Lori Ann, who worked with me to quit smoking and totally changed her life in the process. She shares how she finally let go of cigarettes (even the secret stash in her freezer), went on a bucket-list cruise, and started fully stepping into her gifts as an empath and spiritual healer.

We talk about everything from swimming with dolphins to grounding, spirit teams, addiction recovery, and what it's really like to live in a nudist community. Lori Ann's story is raw, honest, funny, and full of heart.

Whether you're on your own healing path or just love a good transformation story, this one's for you.

Just after the podcast aired, Lori Ann wrote the following... "Good morning! Thanks for inviting me to do the podcast, I think it turned out great but after watching it, there was so much more to my story I wish I would have told, like how the universe intervened right before my accident and prevented it from actually killing me.... Or how after those seven suicide attempts I'm thinking damn, I couldn't even do that right, I started thinking maybe I was meant to be here for a reason, which highs back to what happened right before I hit that truck. I meant to be here because I meant to help awaken people, and I hope when people see the podcast, they'll understand that.... I wanted to show how the universe does incorporate itself into the 3D world when you get so far off your path, they have no other choice but to grab your attention in a very severe way!! I was absolutely meant to be here, just not in Ohio! Anyway, thanks so much for having me on. I just pray that it reaches the people that it can help! ❤️"

  • EP 63: Staying Strong and Sober Through Grief and Loss, With Amy - Part 2

In this episode, Traci helps Amy recenter and ground herself, and shows her a couple of soothing techniques. When she asks Amy if there's anything she can help with, Amy asks for help with an unhealthy relationship she had with Eli. Using The Hilarity and Hypnosis Approach, Traci breaks the bad feelings for Eli using karaoke songs that Amy likes to sing. At the end of the session, Amy thanks Traci for saving her life, as she was collecting meds with the intent to overdose after her dog Sweet Pea died. She tells how she threw out the medications after her first session with Traci.

Grounding and Future Plans Traci asks Amy if she feels more grounded, to which Amy responds affirmatively. Traci guides Amy to visualize a shape and color that feels good to her, leading Amy to choose a purple heart. Amy reflects on her recent actions, acknowledging her progress and the tools she has acquired to handle challenges. Traci and Amy discuss Amy's future plans, including the possibility of fostering another dog and starting a lifestyle meeting at a local dungeon.

Balancing Relationships and Emotional Health Amy expresses her fear of reattaching to James unhealthily, having previously made him her sole source of joy. Traci reassures Amy that avoiding James is not healthy and suggests maintaining some contact to avoid feeling deprived. Amy reflects on her past experiences with attachment and the importance of balancing her emotional health with her relationship with James. Traci and Amy discuss the concept of new relationship energy (NRE) and how it affects their feelings and behavior.

Exploring New Relationships Amy shares her experience with a new guy, Sean, who is also poly and has recently switched from a hierarchical to an anarchical relationship model. Traci and Amy discuss the importance of having clear boundaries and expectations in relationships, using the "rate of date" system to evaluate potential partners. Amy reflects on her past relationships and how they have shaped her current approach to dating and attachment. Traci encourages Amy to continue working on her emotional health and secure attachment style, emphasizing the importance of self-care.

Addressing Past Trauma Amy requests help in addressing past sexual traumas, particularly with a partner named Eli who violated her boundaries. Traci and Amy discuss the impact of these traumas on Amy's current relationships and emotional well-being. Amy shares details of her relationship with Eli, including his refusal to wear condoms and the health issues it caused her. Traci guides Amy through a visualization exercise to release her emotions and feelings about Eli, emphasizing the importance of setting healthy boundaries.

Letting Go of Past Relationships Traci and Amy use a metaphorical microwave to symbolize letting go of the negative aspects of Amy's relationship with Eli. Amy expresses relief and a sense of peace after the exercise, feeling more empowered to set boundaries and maintain healthy relationships. Traci encourages Amy to continue practicing self-care and to reach out to James to see how it affects her emotionally. Amy reflects on the progress she has made in her emotional and relationship journey, feeling more centered and at peace.

Future Plans and Reflections Amy shares her excitement about future plans, including a trip to Vegas with James to meet her parents. Traci and Amy discuss the importance of living in the moment and not future-tripping, emphasizing the need to focus on the present. Amy expresses gratitude for the support and guidance she has received, feeling more confident in her ability to handle challenges. Traci and Amy conclude the session with a heartfelt exchange, expressing their appreciation for each other and the positive impact of their conversations.

  • EP 62: Staying Strong and Sober Through Grief and Loss, With Amy - Part 1

Amy is back for her 3rd session with The Hilarious Hypnotist (see previous episodes 17, 18, & 45). In Episode 45 (April of 2024), she was newly sober and worried about slipping back into drugs and alcohol when it was time for her beloved dog, Sweet Pea, to transition. In January, Sweet Pea passed, and then Amy lost 2 more family members the same week. A few weeks later, she lost her friend Julie at the age of 43. While at Julie's celebration of life, she meets James, and a lovely romance begins. James is polyamorous like Amy, but when he leaves to visit his other partner, Amy has difficulty accepting his absence and is concerned she has an unhealthy attachment to him. She wants to be grounded and centered and find peace within. Traci gets the details of the past several months and realizes Amy has done everything right. Amy reached out to her support system, and they all chipped in to provide support to Amy and helped ensure she stayed sober. Traci also discovers that Amy has made peace with her sister, mother, father, and step-mother (episode 45), that are now also part of her support system.

Amy's Recent Losses and Traumas Traci Kanaan introduces Amy Ortiz, a repeat guest who has experienced significant losses and traumas. Amy shares that her dog, Sweet Pea, passed away on January 4, which triggered a series of other losses. Amy's cousin died of the flu and was taken off a ventilator, followed by her uncle, who also died after being taken off a ventilator. Amy's friend Jenny, who was only 43, died of a heart attack, and her neighbor Maria died from an accidental overdose.

Impact of Losses on Amy's Mental Health Amy describes how the losses affected her mental health, leading her to feel devastated and wanting to drink. She managed to stay sober through her program, meetings, and support from her sponsor. Amy met someone she believed to be her soulmate at Jenny's celebration of life event. The relationship with her soulmate became unhealthy, leading to separation anxiety when he left to visit his other partner.

Amy's Coping Mechanisms and Support System Traci Kanaan suggests writing letters to the people Amy has lost, which Amy finds therapeutic. Amy writes letters to Sweet Pea, her ex-partner Eli, and her partner James, which helps her process her feelings. Traci emphasizes the importance of having a support system, including God, her sponsor, friends, and family. Amy acknowledges the support she received from her new boss, roommate, and other friends and family members.

Amy's Personal Growth and Achievements Amy reflects on her personal growth, noting that she is better off now than she was five years ago. She has remained sober for 14 and a half months and has elevated from a vet tech to a groomer. Amy has lost 13 pounds and has reconnected with her mom, stepmom, and dad. She appreciates the support from her sponsor, friends, and new boss, which has helped her stay grounded.

Amy's Struggles with Separation Anxiety Amy discusses her struggles with separation anxiety and the impact of James's absence on her mental health. She describes the physical symptoms she experienced, including not eating and difficulty sleeping. Amy's friend Mel advised her to take space from James to reconnect with herself. She has started to feel better, eating again and sleeping through the night, but still needs to process the losses.

Amy's Journey to Healing Traci Kanaan guides Amy through a visualization exercise to help her process her losses and find stability. Amy visualizes a rock in her heart representing the loss and separates it from the true love she feels for her lost ones. She crumbles the rock, symbolizing the strength and resilience she found to stay sober. Amy adds positive aspects of her life, including her relationship with James, her new job, and her support system, to the rock.

  • EP 60: "As One Was" to "As One Does", with Skylar - Part 1

Skylar is back for her fourth session a little over one year from her first session, and WHAT A TRANSFORMATION! Skylar and Traci discuss how she just wanted to be okay around black beans and eat a burger, to earning more money in one month than she did previous year. She got herself a management company thanks to another friend in the business (Danni Daniels) and just returned from the AVN awards. The goal for this session is to help her cut ties with her parents who repeatedly cause her anxiety and stress. Her uncle was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer, and she was forgotten when she asked to be included in plans to spend time with him. If that's not enough, she was all excited about a boob lift. Still, she then decided to postpone it until she's in a better mental state to handle being unable to work or lift anything heavy for 6 months while she's healing from the surgery. After covering a variety of issues, Traci now has the groundwork to move forward and get Skylar in a better place.

    KEY POINTS:

-Traci Kanaan introduces Skylar Calico, highlighting the unplanned nature of the podcast and the real-life stories shared by guests.

-Traci recalls Skylar's initial session a year ago, noting Skylar's bitter and angry demeanor at the time.

-Skylar shares that her career took off after releasing bitterness, focusing on social media and content creation, which led to earning four times more than previously.

-Skylar mentions attending the AVN Awards with her social media management agency, contrasting it with the strict control of talent agencies.

    QUOTABLES:

“ And sometimes you get caught up in the moment of life, yeah, and you don't sit there you think, you know, a year ago, I was grossed out by black beans, yeah, oh my god. “

“ It's causing a lot of strife within my family themselves, but more importantly, my uncle has stage four fucking cancer, right’

“It's the triggers, and it's also like, so I basically came to terms with the fact that my family is dead to me”

About The Hilarious Hypnotist

From the publisher's feed

Welcome to the hilarious hypnotist Podcast. I'm Traci Kanaan, your hostess of hypnosis, and I'm a certified hypnotist and hypnotherapist and a former internationally touring comedian. For years I've been using hypnosis to help my clients become the next best version of themselves. One day, I started combining my hypnosis with the skills I learned performing stand-up comedy, and BOOM, I was breaking the traumas that kept disempowering my clients with lightning speed.
