Film critic Alissa Wilkinson joins us to discuss Christian movies, and why they are... something less than good. Alissa currently writes for vox.com having previously been the chief film critic for Christianity Today. She's written provocatively about Christian movies, particularly the God's Not Dead series, which we discuss at length. We also get into films of a more secular bent, and Alissa expounds on Darren Aronofsky's Noah, which we still have not seen.

The Rev. Dr. Hillary Raining reflects on one of her favorite hymns, Be Thou My Vision, yoga, and focusing on God.

Ann Phelps has been working as a musician, chaplain, teacher, activist, and arts minister since 2009 when she graduated from Yale Divinity School and the Yale Institute of Sacred Music. With her academic background in theology and the arts, her work explores the ways that we can recover lost voices from tradition to help us root and expand our own worship practices and theologies as well as generate creative spiritual expressions authentic to our contemporary cultures. She lives in Jackson, MS with her husband and two children, and is expanding from her usual liturgical and musical ministry to re-engage visual arts and storytelling, which was the focus of her undergraduate education at Hastings College in Nebraska. She begins this endeavor with her attempt to write and illustrate a children’s book, The Chapel and the Well, as The Hive’s first Artist in Residence.
