    Film critic Alissa Wilkinson joins us to discuss Christian movies, and why they are... something less than good. Alissa currently writes for vox.com having previously been the chief film critic for Christianity Today. She's written provocatively about Christian movies, particularly the God's Not Dead series, which we discuss at length. We also get into films of a more secular bent, and Alissa expounds on Darren Aronofsky's Noah, which we still have not seen.

  • Season 1 Episode 14 - Artist in Residence Ann Phelps

    Ann Phelps has been working as a musician, chaplain, teacher, activist, and arts minister since 2009 when she graduated from Yale Divinity School and the Yale Institute of Sacred Music. With her academic background in theology and the arts, her work explores the ways that we can recover lost voices from tradition to help us root and expand our own worship practices and theologies as well as generate creative spiritual expressions authentic to our contemporary cultures. She lives in Jackson, MS with her husband and two children, and is expanding from her usual liturgical and musical ministry to re-engage visual arts and storytelling, which was the focus of her undergraduate education at Hastings College in Nebraska. She begins this endeavor with her attempt to write and illustrate a children’s book, The Chapel and the Well, as The Hive’s first Artist in Residence.

  • Season 1 Episode 13 - Yoga and Faith with Elizabeth Sitzler
    Join Hillary and Elizabeth as they discuss the joy of faith and yoga. Elizabeth is the Mysore Director at Prana Das Yoga Therapy & Healing Arts Center in Haverford, PA.    While she was studying history and political science, applying to law school, and competing as a Division 1 tennis player, her father persuaded her to try yoga for the first time, thinking it might help her manage stress. The dynamism of the practice instantly drew her in and she quickly fell in love with the beauty of linking movement, breath, and mindfulness. Soon enough, she was practicing yoga every day; experiencing positive transformations in mind, body, and spirit. As she delved deeper in the practice she discovered Sri K Pattabhi Jois’ Ashtanga Yoga, the Ashtanga Yoga School of Philadelphia, and her first teacher: David Garrigues. The integrity and structure of the Ashtanga Yoga system was a perfect and natural fit for her. Elizabeth taught at and helped run David’s School, AYS Philadelphia, from 2013-2017 before opening her own program at Prana Das.
