  • Season 1 Episode 9 - Racial Bias in Medicine with Christopher Willoughby

Historian Christopher Willoughby of Emory University joins Hillary and Ken to discuss racial bias in medicine, a freewheeling conversation that looks at historic trends which unfortunately still resonate today. Chris explains how racial difference was a prevailing idea in western medicine in the early 20th century, and how difficult it was to shake off those ideas (if at all). A fascinating conversation about a difficult topic (hopefully) brought to you with sensitivity and grace.

For more on the subject, please see Chris' essay Racist Medicine: a History of Race and Health: https://blog.oup.com/2017/09/racist-medicine-history-race-health/
