In this weeks show Steel and I put the finishing touches on our ongoing series Rebuild & Retool! Where in previous shows we offered our opinions on who the Flyers should hire as a head coach, assistant coaches, possible free agent departures that should happen, as well as some trades we would like to see take place. All with the mindset of creating a much younger, faster, and more talented team to put out on the ice next season.

So, keeping that vision in mind throughout this episode we took a look at one of my latest articles that presented two possible candidates who could not only do just that but serve as replacements for the antiquated duo of Chuck Fletcher and Brent Flahr.

Then with a new outlook in place and these two great minds now at the helm to see it into fruition myself and Steel throw out a small list of free agents who these two men might look to replace the aging journeymen that Chuck brought in over the past couple seasons with.

On this special Christmas Edition of the Hockey Writers Ink Lance and I talk about a few Christmas wishes for the team.

We cover Lance’s great article posted on FlyersNittyGritty.com just the other day talking about how this team needs to rip the band-aid off that is Claude Giroux and actually rebuild this team.

For the Flyers this has been less than an ideal year and now with the Christmas Break mandated by the League due to many COVID positive tests. We talk about this and give our opinions on what is going on and what our observations are regarding how the League is handling things.

WJC is soon about to start and the Flyers have a keen interest in this tourney as Elliot the Destroyer Desnoyers is playing for team Canada!

Finally we offer some Christmas wishes for the team in some trades and basically putting the rest of the team on notice that not a single job is set for next season.

With the Flyers continuing to lose and some big changes happening down on South Broad Street as of late. Things for the Flyers seem eerily similar to years prior. As Steel and I sit down to hash this all out we throw quick reference to one of my articles:

Then after we discuss whom might be out there that could take his place in the coming weeks or months, we then come to the realization that we should look to the positive side of things and focus on who might the Flyers be able to draft this upcoming off season seeing that they look like they will be one of the first teams to do so.

"An irreplaceable player and an expendable player!"

Welcome back guys to the show which like or not brings you the cold hard truth about your favorite team the Philadelphia Flyers. As always Steel and I will be your host over the next hour.
On this week’s show we go into why Zack MacEwen’s play this season made Nicolas Aube-Kubel (N.A.K.) not only expendable but Obsolete. There’s no doubt that the Flyers are benefiting from Chuck Fletcher’s work this off season. Where claiming MacEwen from Vancouver once they waived him being no different. Zack’s play this season has been nothing short of amazing. A true Flyer through and through who uses his grit and toughness to his advantage. In saying that when forced to make a roster move when both Kevin Hayes and Ryan Ellis tried to come back before reinjuring themselves his play made it quite an easy decision to pick the often-penalized N.A.K. instead.

This past off season pending UFA Claude Giroux and the Flyers held brief discussions when it came to a new contract, but Giroux ultimately decided to put them on hold and revisit the idea later in the season. Which as evident by his clutch goal before time expired in regulation against the Lightning this past Thursday this rejuvenated player may have just drove up the asking price. Giroux’s play this season has other potential suitors drooling at the thought of acquiring this great veteran talent. With one of those being the Ottawa Senators (were he and his family reside in the off season).
While most fans are certain he will resign I give three U.F.A.’s that the Flyers could sign this coming off season if Claude does decide to play elsewhere. For if your Chuck Fletcher you have to be prepared for the unexpected.

The Hockey Writers Ink: Welcomes Special Guest Len Redkoles, Flyers’ Team Photographer

Welcome to a very special edition of The Hockey Writers Ink, as myself and Steel are joined by the Flyers’ official photographer Len Redkoles. For over the thirty-five years, Len has been contracted to capture some of the biggest and best moments in Flyers’ history.
•Come watch as he explains just how he got hooked on photography and was given his first shot at the professional level (hint: it wasn’t hockey).

•Of course, then we had to ask about all of the pictures he has taken over the years which one was his favorite? And boy what an opportunity of a lifetime this one was.

•Then, Len goes over some of his favorite pictures of the Flyers that he’s taken over the years and lets us in on which players were some of his favorite to shoot.

Given the amount of time this man has spent behind the lens at Flyers games over the years we could have spent three or four hours listening to his stories and seeing all his amazing images he was able to capture during that time. But that will perhaps have to be continued or saved for another show. For now, come watch and listen to Len as he shares these great stories and many more.

Moving forward take the time to look when you see a picture you like of your favorite Flyers player from the past, present, or in the future for I bet nine out of ten times it will either have the name Len Redkoles on it or on the photo credit line.

The Hockey Writers Ink: 50th Show

Hello and welcome to our 50th episode of The Hockey Writers Ink. It has been a journey thus far where we have been able to show lots of growth since the beginning, and we would just like to thank you the fans for all your support.

In the first segment of this show Steel presents me with some questions on why I decided to do the show and how it all came together. My writing style, and how I come to find a topic to write about and so many more.

Moving on we dive into my first article. Which raises the question on when the Flyers will look to place goalie coach Kim Dillabaugh on the hot seat. Since coming to Philadelphia in 2015 Dillabaugh has yet to deliver the team a refined talent in net. Carter Hart has all the talent in the world but still struggles with consistency.
Also, Kim has yet to help develop any of the other Flyers goalie prospects to this point. Depending on how this season goes it maybe time to give him the axe and bring in someone else. For Hart is the kind of talent you just don’t want to squander away.

In the last segment we look into what Flyers prospects are already off too amazing starts this season. Not all of these prospects the are named in this article and during the show are the big-name ones that were drafted early either. Fletcher has been known to find late round talent and these prospects are proof positive of that.
