1. Parents need their own personal, genuine, loving and joyful relationship with Jesus
2. Parents need to let go of fear, perfectionism, inadequacies, and failures
3. Parents need to work hard to provide the foundation of a warm and happy marriage
4. Parents need to concentrate on the
heart of the child not just the behavior. Proverbs 2:2, 10, 3:5, 4:23, 3:1
• Birth-5 Years Old – Focus on a heart of obedience and self-control
• 6-12 Years Old – Focus on a heart of wisdom
• 13-17 Years Old – Focus on a heart of godliness

5. Parents need to give children lots of affection, attention, affirmation and fun. Proverbs 17:22, Psalm 128:1-6
6. Parents need to appreciate and embrace the
unique contributions of both dad and mom. Proverbs 20:6
7. Parents need to create space for scheduled and casual times discussing
God’s Word. Deuteronomy 6:7
8. Parents need to provide controlled, consistent and age-appropriate discipline. Proverbs 13:24, 22:15, 29:15
9. Parents need to make sure the whole family is
involved in local church. Hebrews 10:25
10. Parents need to
pray as if everything depends on God…because it does. 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Romans 12:12, James 5:16, Proverbs 21:31
