Lesson Eight: The Sower, Seed and Soil Doctrine | Text: Mark 4:2-8

Intro: Jesus clearly taught the formula for bearing fruit for a lifetime involves three elements: the Sower, the seed and the soil.

1. The Sower is the

Holy Spirit. As seen in lesson five:

• He teaches us the truth. Ref. John 14:17; 15:1, 26; 16:13

• He empowers us to witness. Ref. Luke 24:49; Acts 1:8

• He guides us. Ref. John 10:9; 16:13

• The Sower can also be the

soul winner. Rom. 10:14, 17; 1 Cor. 3:6; 2 Tim. 4:2; Acts 20:26-27

2. The seed is the

Word of God. Mark 4:13-14. As seen in lesson two:

• We must be in the Word. Ref. Matt.4:4; John 14:23-24; 2 Tim. 2:15

• The word must be in us. Ref. John 15:7-8; 16:13

• The

problem is not with the seed.

- It is

perfect. Psalm 19:7

- It is

inspired. 2 Tim.3:16

- It is

given by Jesus. John 17:8

- It won't be sown in

vain. Isa. 55:11; John 12:48

3. The soil is the

heart = soul of man. Matt. 13:8, 15

• The problem is with the heart of mankind.

• The devil

steals the word from men's heart. Matt. 13:18-19

• When the word causes

conflict, many endure only for a while. Matthew 13:20-21

• Jesus gave the reason many Christians are

unfruitful. Matthew 13:22

- The

cares of this world.

- The deceitfulness of

riches.

• Jesus explains why some are

used to bring forth fruit." Matthew 13:23a

- Their heart is

good soil.

- They hear and

understand the word.

- Their enduring

service brings glory to Jesus. Matthew 13:23b; John 15:8

- Their sacrifice will be

rewarded. Matt.6:32-33; Matt. 19:27,29

Lesson Six: The Doctrine of Repentance

Intro: This is not necessarily a lesson on repentance, but what the doctrine of repentance has to do with soul winning: for fifty years. However, I wish to point out some important Scriptures that shed light on repentance: Ezek. 14:6; Mark 1:15; Luke 13:5; Acts 17:30, 20:21; John 6:29; Romans 4:5

1. The

blessings of repentance.

• The

goodness/love of God leads us to repent. Rom. 2:4; 2 Cor. 5:14-15; Titus 3:3-7

• The

grace of God allows us to repent. Eph. 2:8-9; Rom. 5:20; Ref. Tit. 3:7

• The

mercy of God forgives us when we repent. Lk. 24:47; 2 Peter 3:9; 1 John 1:8-9 = repentance is ongoing. Ref. Tit. 3:5

Lesson Four: The vineyard doctrine | Text: Matthew 20:1

Intro: Intro. Jesus made it clear that God's plan is for God's people to work in God's vineyard. This is what the "Kingdom of Heaven is all about"! Reference our text.

Praise God He has used this doctrinal principle to help us serve Him for 50 years.

1. Working in God's vineyard gives us a

purpose to serve Him.

• It is life's

greatest purpose. Matt. 4:19, 21:28; John 15:16

• It was and is the purpose of

Jesus. Luke 19:10

• It is life's greatest

need. John 4:35 = Ref. last week's lesson on hell.

Note: God's vineyard is the harvest.

• Jesus said it is life's

priority. Luke 10:1-2; Mark 16:15

• It is life's greatest

privilege. 1 Cor. 3:9; 2 Cor. 5:20-21

• It is life's greatest

joy. Luke 15:10; Acts 13:52; Rom. 14:17; 1 Thess. 2:19

2. Working in God's vineyard gives us a

place to serve Him.

• Each of us begin

in the "church".

- Jesus wants to use us to

build His Church. Matt. 16:18; Acts 2:47, 14:23; Matt. 28:19

- It is in the church where we

learn to work in God's vineyard. Matt. 28:20; 1 Cor. 12:28; 1 Tim. 3:15; Heb. 2:12

• All of us are to go

into the world.

- Jesus always said

go work in My vineyard. Matt. 20:4; 21:28

- Jesus told the

disciples to go into the world. Mark 16:15; Acts 1:8; Matt. 24:14

- Jesus tells the

church to go into the world. Ref. Matt 28:19-20

• Some of us are to go

across the world. Ref. Acts 1:8

- Some went nearby, others went to the

ends of the earth. Luke 24:47; Matt. 28:20b

- Someone must go to the regions

beyond. 2 Cor. 10:16

- Someone must go where they have never

heard. Rom. 15:20

3. Working in God's vineyard gives us

persistence.

• It keeps us

faithful doing what we are called to do. Matt.25:21
