The Homestead Kings

"To farmers everywhere, faithful stewards of God's creation and coworkers with Christ, who feed the world and help to renew the face of the earth." - Andie Andrews Eisenberg

I so enjoyed talking with Andie about her latest book 'Farming and Homesteading with the Saints'! Andie "presents a faith-filled treasury of Catholic holy men and women connected to agriculture, animals, and rural life." We LOVE her book in our home, and it's quickly becoming engrained into our homesteading daily life. It was an honor to interview Andie, and we hope you enjoy it too!

I had the best time learning all about dairy sheep with Rachel Hester from Whoopsy Daisy Farm! Rachel and her husband live on an 8-acre homestead in Kentucky and go against conventional sheep stereotypes by not only using their milk to make homemade soap but also to drink! Join us and learn how sheep's milk revolutionized Rachel and her family's health and what led to Rachel turning her knowledge into a published book to help others start their own homestead sheep dairy journey!

Rarely do dads share what pregnancy and the newborn chapter mean for them. Arthur goes into logistical details and what was running through his mind while also tackling and managing the homestead.

We've been away for a few months so towards the end, we give some updates from the homestead like- do foxes stalk cats? are geese good hatchers? did we need another kitten?

We are finally breaching the all-too-common homesteading topic of backyard chickens, and there's a good reason why! Since 2020, soaring egg prices and shortages have continued to be a normal part of your average grocery store visit. Whether or not you should have backyard chickens has become a real question to any household that consumes a fair amount of eggs. We run through why or why not you may want chickens, how to raise and care for them, what they need, whether they are worth it, whether they could fit your lifestyle, and more!

Homemakers are always learning new techniques and skills and are always trying new things or maintaining old ones. There is absolutely no shame in homemaking. It is a life of service showing others how much they matter. Homemakers deeply love, wholeheartedly care, and graciously accept their role. They are productive, contributing members of their households, their families, and their comfort and happiness, are a homemaker's number one priority. Homemaker is one of the most honorary titles you can have. Anyone can live in and manage a house. Not everyone can make a house a home, so what makes a homemaker?

It’s common knowledge that homesteading takes a lot of work. We’ve all chosen this life so we love said work. However, when you’re looking to go on vacation, finding others comfortable and willing to do our daily chores can be a difficult task. So, what attributes should you look for in a house/pet/livestock/poultry sitter?

As always, thank you for joining us! We're so glad you're here.

If you have close neighbors to your homestead, then you’ve probably heard some complaints… so have we. Luckily, we do also have some neighbors who love the homestead sights, sounds, and smells. You may not have as many direct neighbors as we do, but it is possible to have a homestead with neighbors close by, no matter the number.

We'd love to hear your stories! What do you do to keep the peace with your neighbors? What are your cringe-worthy neighbor encounters?
