The Homestead Kings

You can "homestead" from anywhere, but some things, like animals or an expansive garden, do require a little more land space. What are you looking for? What's your plan? What are your goals? What's your budget?

No matter what your homesteading goals are, the steps to searching for the perfect property are pretty much the same across the board. We talk about this and how to achieve your homesteading dreams even if the property isn't "perfect" to begin with.

As always, thank you for joining us! We're so glad you're here.

Sometimes, the fear of the unknown or a lack of confidence, or even poor time management can prevent us from just starting something. Even then, once you start, see it through and "go"! No matter what you're on the cusp of, the time is going to pass anyway. You might as well begin a task, a creative outlet, a book, a project, etc., and fill that time with something productive.

In this episode, we give some tangible ideas to start and go on, share a couple of announcements, and present a personal challenge that anyone can participate in!

As always, thank you for joining us! We're so glad you're here.

So as requested, we talk nitty, gritty details on how you can organize your budget, pay off debt, and find money to stow away in savings. We're definitely not financial professionals, but we share what tactics have worked for us and our homestead.

Round bales can cut costs, but you have to figure out how to move them, store them and properly use them for your livestock. Our DIY Hay Hut blog post is our number one most visited article on our blog and for good reason! It can be a real dilemma trying to figure out what to do with these massive hay bales. Today, we give a little update on how our hay huts have held up the past four years, what we'd do differently and what we've learned. They were truly easy to build and have made such a difference to our budget, our workload, and our peace of mind. If you're looking for a solution for hay, we hope this helps! And as always, thank ya'll for tuning in! Please like, subscribe, comment/email, and review!

Just because you didn't grow up on a homestead or have never worked on a farm doesn't mean that you aren't capable or ready to start homesteading. Like anything, if you're willing to put forth the effort of learning and embracing the work it takes to homestead, you can absolutely be a successful homesteader!

In this episode, we talk about our gateways into homesteading (hint: it wasn't chickens for us!), how to baby step or dive right in depending on how you yourself work, and getting the courage to embrace and connect with this way of life.

As always, thank you for joining us! We're so glad you're here.

With the ever-exciting life and chaos on a homestead also comes having to deal with death. This was a hard one for us... As much as we all want them to live forever, animals come to an end, and often, our choices can affect that chapter and how it closes. We share our grief and what we've learned from having to make end-of-life decisions for our animals in the past and present. It's not a fun topic (that's for sure!), but it's one we all have to face at some point if we choose this way of life, a life full of the joys animals bring to our everyday.

Check out our video podcast on YouTube or Rumble to see basically every video I have of our beloved animals who are no longer with us, and make sure to stay to the end (or fast forward) to see Pendleton's goodbye.

And as always, thank you for listening, but especially thank you for getting through this one with us. It's such a sad, emotional thing to talk about and it was a struggle to get through it, but our hope, through this podcast, is that we can be stewards for the homesteading life and all its ups and downs. Thank you.

I rarely have to edit, but this time, this outtake from our episode, "Busy, The Myth," was too good not to share. There are times when the word "NO" should be your only answer, and yet, it's a simple, little word that is sometimes soooo hard to say.
