About the author:
Hardy's literary career took a significant turn in the late 1870s when he began writing novels set in the fictional region of Wessex, inspired by the landscape and people of rural Dorset. His novels were characterized by their realistic portrayals of rural life, social issues, and complex characters. Some of his most famous novels include "Far from the Madding Crowd" (1874), "The Mayor of Casterbridge" (1886), "Tess of the d'Urbervilles" (1891), and "Jude the Obscure" (1895). These works often challenged the moral conventions of the time and faced controversy for their frank discussions of sexuality and societal norms.
