Welcome back to the How is He podcast - With your hosts, Podge Doyle & Paul Popa Dowling, right here in Ampifi Studio, located in the heart of Carlow town.

This week the lads are joined by a true Freebooters legend - Jack Poyntz - a man who’s been part of the club for over two decades. He played for Freebooters for 20 years, with the highlight of his playing career coming in 2008 when he helped the team lift the Leinster Junior Cup. He also represented Ireland in 6 a side.

These days, he’s passing on his experience as manager of the Freebooters B team — but that’s not all. Off the pitch, he’s built a massive online following as the creator of a Manchester United community  channel, launched in 2022 and now boasting over 80,000 followers across all platforms. Jack also had Man united daily -  a podcast that is all things Man u and is a big part of the Community Radio Kilkenny City as one of the hosts of the soccer podcast.

Harry started playing pitch and putt at the age of 12 in Graiguecullen - Started playing golf at the age of 14 in Borris golf club these were the best days of his life (he recounts) He finished school and wanted nothing else only to become a PGA pro he started his apprenticeship in Carlow golf club where he done the 4 years under PRO Andy Gilbert. He then took the head pro role at Quinta do Lago in Portugal for 2 years before becoming the head pro & director of golf in Waterford Golf club. 

He started caddying in mid 2001 and has travelled the world caddying for some of the best on the LPGA and LET tours, He also does on course commentary for radio every year and is just back from royal portrush this year. 

He does all this while also writing an article every week for the Carlow Nationalist.

This week Podge & Popa are joined by John Kelly - A primary school principal. He has had a lifelong involvement in the GAA as a player, coach and administrator and more recently as an intercounty match official. 

John also holds an MA in Irish Regional History and he is a contributor to many publications including Irelands Own, RTE’s Sunday Miscellany and the Carloviana.

John has recently published a book called the GAA Covered.  A book that encapsulates the collection of All Ireland and provincial match programmes going back decades. The book is currently at number 3 in the Irish best sellers list.
