  • Episode 46 - Sailing the Bahamas with Lauren Landers!

#046 - Have you ever thought about living a life at sea?  For Lauren Landers this thought is a reality.  At a young age Lauren is living on her 51 foot sail boat in the Bahamas.

It was fascinating to hear about Lauren's love for the sea and how that love has turned into full-time living at sea.  Not only is Lauren a certified Captain she is also a free dive instructor and love spending time in and under the water.  She has swam with dolphins and sharks including the famous Hammerhead shark.  From sailing at night and sailing solo Lauren is living her best life.  She does face challenges like the rest of us and is learning and growing as she moves forward.

Come aboard the Soul De La Mar with Lauren Landers and set sail for Adventure!

  • Episode 45 - Adventuring With Cattle Dogs with Kirstie and Les Card from @cattledogsandco!

#045 - This was my first time really diving into adventures with pets!  I had the chance to speak with Les and Kirstie Card from Cattle Dogs and Company.  The Cards are from Nova Scotia in Canada and venture all over their Provence and neighboring areas going on adventures with their dogs.

The real stars of the show are Jackson, Memphis, and Mersey the cattle dogs.  Having the dogs has encouraged the Cards to get outdoors and explore.  It was fun to hear some of the experiences they have encountered on Prince Edward Island, The Cabot Trail, Mt. Carleton and many other locations.

I really loved how Les talked about mental health issues and how adventuring can really be a great way to fill up your cup.

Be sure and follow Les and Kirstie along with their dogs on Instagram @cattledogsandco .  They also have some great videos you will want to watch on YouTube.

  • Episode 44 - Ultra Trail Running and Endurance with Michael Whiteside!

#044 - I love talking to Ultra Runners.  They have such a determination and grit that is hard to describe.  My guest this week, Michael Whiteside, is someone who I would describe as someone with both grit and determination.

Michael is from my home state of Utah and is fairly new on the Ultra Running scene.  Michael has dealt with a tough past, but uses ultra running as another way to battle past addictions and self-doubt.  It was fun talking to Michael about the beauty he sees when he runs and the community of trail runners that make up such a tight knight group.  I also love how much Michael's family and in-laws mean to him and the support they give him.

This episode was inspiring and entertaining.  I really loved getting to know who Michael is a person.  To follow along a little closer to Michael give him a follow on Instagram @michael_dean82 .

  • Episode 43 - Adventuring as Friends with Julie and Sara from @folkloreadventures!

#043 - Part of what makes going on adventures memorable is the time we spend with others doing the things we love.  My conversation with Julie and Sara from @folkloreadventures really showcased how much fun it is to share an experience with a friend.

Julie and Sara started their adventures together by taking a 2 week trip not really knowing each other that well.  It turns out they clicked really well together and now try to take advantage of their friendship to experience hiking, camping, backpacking, and road tripping together.  From a 7 to 8 hour drive to Yosemite National Park on a weekend all the way to Patagonia in Chile and Argentina they find the fun and enjoyment of creating memories together.

This episode is a lot of fun.  There were conversations about a close bear encounter as well as frolicking in a field with cows while wearing a dairy cow onesie.  This is an episode that will bring a smile to your face!

Feel free to follow along with Sara and Julie on their adventures by giving them a follow on Instagram @folkloreadventures .

  • Episode 42 - Adventures in Morocco with Andrew Dean!

#042 - Do you remember seeing the animated version of Aladdin back in the 90s and watching Aladdin run around Agrabah?  I felt like I was in Agrabah as my guest, Andrew Dean, took me on his adventures through Morocco.

I have always been fascinated with the country of Morocco.  Morocco sits close to Europe, but is it's own unique place.  From the Blue Pearl of Morocco, the bustling souks of Marrakech, and the beautiful sand of the Sahara desert this was a fun and inspiring adventure.

Andrew tells some great stories and I learned the importance of not dwelling too much on outside factors when deciding to travel and pursue your adventures.  He also taught me the importance of appreciating the culture you are in while on your adventures.  If you have not done so put Morocco on your list of places to visit and have your own Moroccan adventure!

Andrew Dean is a professional photographer and avid traveler.  Check him out on Instagram @drewtravels4life .

Thank you for your continued support of Journey with Jake.  If you are adventurous and have any stories or experiences I would love to hear about them.  Send me an email to [email protected] or direct message me on Instagram @journeywithjakepodcast .  I would love to hear from you!

  • Episode 41 - Ultramarathon Running with The Ultramarathon Man, Dean Karnazes!

#041 - I sometimes hear about things people accomplish and it is hard to fathom or imagine what they do.  My guest today is the Ultramarathon Man, Dean Karnazes.

Dean has done things that I can only imagine.  He has run long  distances all the over the world in some of the most unforgiving climates and temperatures including Antarctica and Death Valley.  Through all of this the biggest takeaway I came away with is how Dean has found himself.  There are so many parallels to life that we can take away from what Dean shares.  I am nowhere close to  running the distances that Dean runs, but I was able to learn more about myself and how to take things one step at a time!

Be sure and check out Dean Karnazes on social media and the web.  You can follow him on Instagram @ultramarathon or check out his website www.ultramarathonman.com .  I am sure you will be inspired as much as I am.

  • Episode 40 - Remote Work and Travel with Jackie from Bon Voyage Jackie!

#040 - I had the chance to speak with Jackie Carbo about the idea of traveling while working remote.  One of the benefits from the COVID-19 pandemic has been the opportunity to work remote.  Jackie jumps into the fact we don't have to quit or day jobs to travel more.  We can work remote while we travel.

I loved my conversation with Jackie as we touched on some of her favorite places to visit which include Central America.  Spending the night watching an erupting volcano will surely be at the top of anyone's lists of amazing experiences.

Please give Jackie a follow on Instagram to see everything she is up to.  You can find her @bonvoyagejackie and learn more about how she travels and works remote.

  • Episode 39 - Starting Off the New Year with Adventures of A + K!

#039 - I am in one year into Journey with Jake and what a ride it has been!  Today's episode felt like a dream come true for me.  I had the opportunity to speak with Adam and Kathryn from Adventures of A+K.  Why is that a dream come true for me you might ask?  Adam and Kathryn were the first content creators that I said to myself that I would love to have them on the show.  It took me awhile, but I was able to chat with them about their lives and what they are up to.  They are just as fun in person as they are on social media.

Adventures of A+K is all about helping other travelers by sharing their experiences and resources on social media and in particular with a fantastic YouTube channel.  They have traveled most of the United States in their converted sprinter van and share experiences about van life and just the overall joy and challenges of full-time travel.

  • Episode 37 - The Great Smoky Mountains and Gatlinburg, TN with The Traveling Stewarts!

#037 - How many of us travel and think I need that "Wow" moment in order for me to feel like this trip is complete?  Although it is not necessary this is something Ann and Cory Stewart look for when they travel.

I am fortunate I had the chance to speak with Ann and Cory from The Traveling Stewarts about their recent trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee and The Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  I have always been fascinated by both the Smoky Mountains and Gatlinburg.  Have you ever played miniature golf up on a mountain or visited a theme park on a mountain.  In Gatlinburg this all possible and happened for the Stewarts.  We also get to hear about the "Wow" moment for Cory in the Great Smoky Mountains!  You will really enjoy this episode!
