  • Surviving Captivity & Finding God | Paul the Rebel Reverend

How do you find faith after seeing the worst of humanity?

Paul, known as the Rebel Reverend, joins me on The Human Mask for a deeply personal conversation about military service, surviving captivity, PTSD, grief and finding God.

Paul recounts experiences from Bosnia and Libya, the memories he carried home, and the effect they had on his relationships and sense of himself. He speaks about the loss of his beloved dog Bear, the support of his wife, and the moments he came to understand as signs that his life needed to change.

We get into the questions that don't have comfortable answers: how much control do we really have over our lives? What does forgiveness mean when someone has hurt you? Can you believe in God and still question religion? And when something extraordinary happens, is it coincidence—or something more?

There is humour, disagreement and reflection, but the signs and coincidences make this conversation especially personal for me. We talk about things I noticed the night before we recorded, and moments that unfolded that day and during the podcast itself, which left me wondering whether there was more going on than coincidence.

One moment genuinely stopped me in my tracks: I used an Iron Man analogy to describe the soul, only for Paul to tell me he had already used that same comparison in a sermon he was developing. You hear my surprise as it happens—and the questions it raises for me about faith, meaning and whether we recognise signs when they appear.

The conversation becomes more religious than I expected. We explore Paul's Christian faith, God, Jesus, prayer and forgiveness, and what it means to feel guided towards something you hadn't planned. Paul shares how he understands those experiences through his faith, while I reflect on my own questions and the things I found difficult to dismiss. Whether you see coincidence, personal meaning or something spiritual in those moments, there is plenty to think about.

    In this conversation:
    • Childhood, bullying, martial arts and joining the military
    • Paul's accounts of conflict, captivity and survival
    • PTSD, grief and the difficulty of saying you're not okay
    • Christianity, free will and his journey towards faith
    • Psychics, spiritual experiences and the signs he believes he received
    • Forgiveness, kindness and the impact of the words we use
    • Who we are beneath the uniform, the title and the mask

Whether you share Paul's faith, question it, or are still working out what you believe, there is plenty here to sit with.

What stayed with you most—and what would you have asked Paul? Let me know in the comments. Keep the conversation thoughtful, even when you disagree.

  • LAUREN LOUISHA I Trauma, self worth & finding your voice

How do you learn to be kind to yourself when kindness wasn’t what you grew up with?

Writer and spoken-word artist Lauren Louisha joins me on The Human Mask for an honest conversation about surviving difficult beginnings, rebuilding self-worth and finding the courage to let yourself be seen.

Lauren talks about leaving home at 15, learning to care for herself, the beliefs we carry from childhood and what changed when she found a therapist she connected with. We explore her experiences of dyslexia, writing and creativity, the pressure of being visible online, and why being called “difficult” doesn’t always mean you’re wrong.

There’s humour, vulnerability and a question that runs through the conversation: how much of the life you want could you start building with what you already have?

We also discuss Lauren’s personal experiences of psychosis, trauma and spirituality. These are her experiences and perspectives, shared in her own words.

What part of Lauren’s story stayed with you? Tell us in the comments.

  • CHRISTINA AKA C-DJ I SELF TRUST I IDENTITY

What does it really mean to trust yourself—and how much of who you believe you are was shaped by somebody else?

In this episode of The Human Mask Podcast, Alex sits down with Christina Alexandra (CDJ) for an open, thoughtful and unusually energetic conversation about identity, confidence, intuition and the relationship we build with ourselves.

This was a rare episode where Christina’s energy, curiosity and way of asking questions drew even more out of Alex than usual. Rather than a conventional host-and-guest interview, the conversation develops into a genuine exchange of ideas. Christina turns questions back towards Alex, challenges him to reflect in the moment and creates the kind of natural human connection that allows both people to speak with honesty.

Christina explains why confidence does not always need to announce itself. Sometimes confidence is knowing that you understand a subject and feeling no need to prove it. At other times, it means confiding in yourself: trusting your own judgement while continuing to act with warmth, boundaries and integrity.

The conversation also explores how childhood experiences can affect our voice and identity. What happens when a child learns that their thoughts need permission or validation? How can family anxiety, fear and learned behaviour become part of our own belief system—even when those fears were never based on our lived experience?

Alex and Christina discuss listening to the body, recognising when something or someone feels wrong, and understanding the difference between a sincere question and an attempt to provoke a reaction. They reflect on growth, adversity, protecting your peace and how maturity can mean walking away from drama you once would have confronted.

Christina introduces a powerful way of thinking about self-development: you are the house you live in. Reflection helps us repair the leaks and make the house safe, but once the work is done, we also have to remember to live in it and enjoy it. Personal growth should help us experience life, not leave us endlessly searching for another problem to fix.

The episode also considers gratitude, ambition, men’s emotional depth, nervous-system regulation and the difference between forcing progress and allowing yourself to enter a state of flow. For Alex—someone naturally driven by action and momentum—the discussion around slowing down, connection and flow becomes particularly revealing.

Some of the questions explored in this episode include:

    • Who are you beneath other people’s expectations?
    • What does real confidence look like?
    • Are you listening to how you feel?
    • Which fears are truly yours—and which were handed to you?
    • Can gratitude and ambition exist together?
    • How do you protect your peace without losing your strength?
    • When does self-improvement become another form of avoidance?
    • Can meaningful conversation help us find a natural state of flow?

If this conversation resonates with you, tell us what stood out in the comments. Subscribe to The Human Mask for more honest conversations about business, community, identity and self—and share this episode with someone who may need to hear it.

  • LINDSEY KANE: Patriarchy, Feminism & Who We Become

What happens when you start questioning the rules you’ve spent your whole life living by?

Lindsey Kane joins me for a wide-ranging conversation about patriarchy, feminism, identity, self-awareness and personal growth — and, importantly, what all of that means for both women and men.

Lindsey is an entrepreneur, speaker, founder of The YES Club, the woman behind JOLT, and host of Bedtime Theories. Much of her work centres around challenging expectations, building self-worth and encouraging women to stop waiting for permission to live life on their own terms.

But this conversation goes beyond labels.

We question the systems and beliefs we inherit, how our experiences shape the way we see the opposite sex, whether feminism and patriarchy are always understood properly, and what happens when we become self-aware enough to challenge our own beliefs as well as everybody else’s.

    It’s not about agreeing.

It’s about staying curious enough to examine why you believe what you believe — and how much of it is actually yours.

No labels. Stay curious. See yourself.

  • PHIL HAUSER AI,ANARCHY & REALITY

What happens when you sit down with someone who seems capable of having a serious conversation about almost anything?

I met Phil almost by fate — and pretty quickly, I knew I wanted him on The Human Mask.

Phil operates in the worlds of AI and business, but his thinking goes far beyond either. He’s also written a paper exploring a theory in physics, and that gives you an idea of where this conversation goes.

We get into artificial intelligence and where it could take us, anarchy as a genuine political philosophy rather than the chaos people often associate it with, simulation theory, physics, society, human behaviour and some much bigger questions about the reality we think we understand.

This became less of an interview and more of an intellectual debate between two people willing to explore ideas without needing to agree on everything.

And we barely scratched the surface.

One of those conversations that could easily have gone on for hours.

Who is Phil? And more importantly — how does his mind work?

    Welcome to The Human Mask.

  • Carmina-ISLAM & PERSONALITIES

In this episode, Carmina opens up about all the mistakes and missteps of her life that has lead to become the balanced person she strives to be today. Including her relationship with religion and how other people’s religions expectations shaped the course of her life.

Carmina explores how she inherited misapplied cultural practices, and unconsciously mistook them for Islam itself. Those beliefs influencing  some of her biggest life decisions, eventually contributing to a broken home, single parenthood, financial hardship and years of living in survival mode.

An eye opening conversation that shines light on a reality many western reverts will most likely resonate deeply with. Carmina’s life experiences forced her to question everything she knew, step away from mainstream expressions of Islam and redefine her relationship with her Creator for herself, deconstructing the mix up of culture, subconscious conditioning and social expectations from true authentic expressions of her faith

Danny | Dad Compass | The Human Mask Podcast

Who are we beneath the roles we play?

In this episode of The Human Mask, Alex sits down with Danny from Dad Compass for an honest conversation exploring self-awareness, human behaviour, judgement, identity, purpose, and the challenges many men face but rarely talk about.

Known for encouraging men to lead with intention and authenticity, Danny has built Dad Compass around the idea that growth begins with taking responsibility, being willing to reflect, and showing up consistently for the people who matter most.

As always, this isn’t about telling people what to think. It’s about creating conversations that encourage you to think for yourself, question your own beliefs, and look a little deeper at the masks we all wear.

If you’re interested in psychology, self-awareness, human behaviour, men’s mindset, and honest conversations that challenge perspectives, this episode is for you.

  • JIMMY ROCHE I SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT

What happens when the biggest battle you ever fight is with your own mind?

This week on The Human Mask, I sat down with Jimmy Roche, a military veteran whose life has been shaped by trauma, mental illness, being sectioned under the Mental Health Act, multiple suicide attempts, and a relentless search for redemption.

Jimmy speaks openly about living with schizophrenia, how it has changed the way he sees the world, and why he’s dedicated to trying to put right the mistakes of his past. His perspective on human behaviour is unlike anything we’ve explored before—raw, uncomfortable, and deeply thought-provoking.

We also discuss what happened after his appearance on another major podcast, where Jimmy believes his story was misrepresented, giving him the opportunity to explain his side and set the record straight.

Whether you agree with Jimmy or not, this conversation challenges assumptions about mental health, accountability, forgiveness, and what it really means to understand another human being.
