5 years ago a naive and overconfident 20 year old decided to drop out of uni, invest $25,000 into a coach, and open his own gym with a grand total of 9 months experience in the industry.
A lot has happened since then and today I share 5 key lessons from half a decade of being in trenches since making that bold decision.
This one is perfect for you if you run your own business or have aspirations to do so in the near future.
I share:
- The story behind deciding to drop out of uni to pursue the gym
- The 1 small change that took me from barely making rent to expanding to a bigger facility
- Why a lot of business advice does more harm then good.
Hope you enjoy it and let me know what your biggest takeaway is.

When I was 18 I started becoming a motivation machine; reading every blog, book and motivational quote I could find.
One particular quote struck me and stayed in my heart for years to come.
'To achieve what others won't you have to do what others don't'
I first applied to my fitness when I was losing weight and it served me well.
But when I started in business it really changed the game.
By applying that quote to one strategy as a new personal trainer I went from losing money at the gym to $2K a week as a PT at 20 years old.
In today's episode, I share that strategy and how I applied that quote to completely turn around my business.
If you internalise this mantra you will shock yourself at what you can achieve.
Let me know how you found it on the social medias.

The quickest way to give up your power is to think you have none. That's what so many people do when circumstances aren't going their way.
When all the stars are aligning and everything is going smoothly they're happy to take all the responsibility then.
But when the shit hits the fan it's not their fault.
The people who can take unconditional responsibility for their life, their choices, and their attitude will win.
On today's episode, I dive in more into this mindset and how successful people apply it in their life.
Enjoy!
A client asked me yesterday 'How do I lose that last wobbly bit between my thighs?'
Moving past discussing the unlikely chance of spot targetting fat loss, there is a deeper issue to address.
How easily fixated we can be on our flaws. This is something extremely close to my heart, as I struggled with this for multiple years when I was younger.
At 18 I developed an eating disorder from being so fixated on losing my stomach. It led me to require testosterone replacement therapy for 5 years to get back to normal function.
On today's episode, I discuss how to overcome this battle with our body. How to work toward fitness goals from a healthy place. And how to own wherever you are at.

Imagine spending your whole childhood ostracized from your community and never feeling accepted.
If you endured that and came out as a happy, loving person, all of us would agree that alone would be an achievement.
What about not only that but then creating your own national movement around self-appreciation and unconditional love?
That's superhuman.
But that's what todays guest on the podcast Prema Smith has done.
Today is Self-Appreciation day, spearheaded by Prema last year and blowing up this year by partnering with Blackmores Running Festival.
Prema jumped on the podcast to share the heart-wrenching story of how this movement started for him and his keys to self-appreciation.
We touched on:
—> Prema’s tough upbringing and how that shaped him
—> The tragedy that led him to start self-appreciation day
—> Premas ‘A-B-C’ process for beginning to rewire your mind to appreciate yourself and your life.
—> How to stop seeking validation from others and liberate yourself
This was a fun but powerful conversation with one of the most passion, genuinely happy humans I’ve ever met. If you need a dose of self-love and positivity, you’ll love it.

It’s easy to see someone with 30,000 followers and a successful business and assume they’ve always been like that; they just have some special gift others weren't born with.
But when you go under the surface you often find they’ve had more hardships, setbacks, and challenges than most people.
It’s simply their persistence and will to overcome that has got them to where they are now.
Today, I got the pleasure of chatting 1 on 1 with Tim Speirs, who embodies exactly that.
Tim completely opened up about his story from overcoming drug & alcohol abuse to becoming an international peak performance coach running his own life-changing retreats.
Tim held nothing back and shared the raw truth of the journey he’s had to go on to reach that
In this episode you’ll learn:
—> How tragedy can be your greatest lesson to move forward
—> The first steps to stop only living for partying and find real fulfilment in your life
—> The simple questions to find clarity in your goals and life
—> Tims personal daily routine that gives him fulfilment and growth
—> The coaching secret Tims discovered on his way to a multi-six figure coaching business and 30,000 followers

A gym client of mine asked me if I could have a chat to her 17 year old son who wanted to lose weight.
I happily obliged, curious as to what I could give this young man that could get him where he wants to be.
What came out was a principle I think EVERYONE can benefit from. In my opinion, a key ingredient for successful people in any field.
I got a message from his mum the next day that he was a different person! Had thrown out the junk food in the pantry and began food prepping.
Big doors swing on small hinges, and this small hinge can make a huge difference in anyones life.

Imagine this for a second:
You’re forced to work like a slave day in and day out, living off a few scraps of bread, no showering, sleeping in your own filth, constantly fatigued, AND if you stop working hard you’re instantly killed.
Grim, I know, but this was the reality for the poor souls that went through concentration camps in WW2.
One of them was called Viktor Frankl, and he wrote a book about his experience surviving it called ‘Mans search for meaning’
As I was re-reading it the other night his message struck me once again. He discovered that the difference between those who endured and made it out of these conditions vs those who gave up and were killed was the meaning they gave to the situation.
Those who could find meaning in their suffering, a meaning for their existence and survival were the ones that actually did.
His core point is that the key to both a fulfilled life AND getting through whatever hard times you may be facing is to choose to give it a meaning.
To consciously find purpose in who you are, what you do, and why that matters.
It’s one of the key differences humans have over other species, we’re allowed to step out of matrix and choose the meaning we give to our lives.
I believe we all have a ‘calling’, but society and our conditioning blocks our ears.
When you find a meaning that matters to you, that gives you purpose, you will never run out of motivation. No obstacle will be too overwhelming. There is no more negotiating on your goals and mission.
I believe meaning IS motivation.
If you want to begin discovering yours or refine the one you have then you'll find that in the latest episode
Talent is over rated.
And talking about talent only further re-enforces the wrong mindset.
When we reward and acknowledge 'natural gifts or talents' we remove opportunities from those who didn't win the genetic lottery.
That's not to say genetics don't matter, they certainly do. But we can't change them, so why dwell on it.
Why not focus on the countless number of examples of people with lackluster genetics in certain areas who wouldn't settle and over came those odds to succeed.
That's what we discuss today and how to better view the world to realise your potential and chase what you really want.
Jumping into being your own boss can be overwhelming. You see companies with so many products, so many moving parts, and your brain can feel like exploding.
I felt the same way when I opened my first business 5 years ago. After going through the process of growing that, and now a second business coaching others to grow theirs, I've learned a few keys to doing it right.
If you're on the fence about starting your own business or in the early stages, this ones for you.
Here are the keys to getting any kind of business off on the right foot and give you some ideas on where to start.
Enjoy!
