Come along as I tell you what seeing one's art behind really hot English actors is like... particularly when you don't expect it. ALSO, my latest medical illustration assignment, a vividly anatomical Italian sculpture holding its own skin AND what in the heck barleycorn has to do with the human foot??

The episode begins with some feels as I walk you through something that happened to me this past week in the world of art and my local community - I learned a bunch about the benefit-of-the-doubt (grace) - along with a more personal challenge I've been facing - procrastination (can you relate??). Then, I turn to another important place that medical illustration is done - the operating room (OR). Surgeries need to be drawn for a variety of reasons but usually it all boils down to teaching. In this episode, I share what that experience is like along with a few anecdotes from my time in the OR over the last two decades. And lastly I come to one of the most JAW-DROPPING bits of anatomical knowledge I have to share - just what is the deal with eye (iris) color?? It might not be at all what you think - especially if you have a color OTHER than brown. Oooo! The mystery!

Welcome to the I Draw Dead People Podcast with me, your host, Megan Foldenauer. Let's kick things off with who I am and what I'm up to - with some very vulnerable honesty. PS: All of the linkage-y goodness is in the show notes!

Hey! This is I Draw Dead People and I’m your fearless (?) leader, Megan Foldenauer. I’m a 20-year veteran of the field of medical art with a doctorate in anatomy. I love everything at the intersection of science and art.

Do you find yourself transfixed when you come across a vintage etching of a skull online? Yeah, me too. Charts, infographics, street art, fine art, books, tattoos, models, animation, illustrations of all kinds… and don’t get me started on museums - I can’t get enough!

I started this podcast to share my experience as a medical artist and anatomist from the front lines. I’m so ready to have you pull up a chair at my drawing table as I teach you some things in solo episodes BUT ALSO as we learn about a lot of things TOGETHER through riveting interviews with folks who live and breathe this stuff too! I’m SO honored to call these humans my colleagues.

Ultimately, my hope is to really build a community of people who can share and learn together.

I hope you leave each episode feeling like a part of the coolest, weirdest (in the best way) community on earth – us sciart lovers – and with a maybe more than a smidge of renewed wonder about this bananas world.
