Today's episode features US patent attorney JD Houvener, from the virtual boutique law firm Bold IP. He works with inventors and business owners, artists and authors. After starting his career in Industrial and Systems Engineering at the aircraft manufacturer, JD he went to business school and was then inspired to become a patent attorney. So he went to law school and eventually opened his own practice, Bold IP. He has 3 ideas and inventions pending patent registration himself. One is a new business structure for law firms, and the other two—a baby seat invention and a helmet protection device—have been inspired by his experience of being a parent of young children. JD covers both sides of the intellectual property experience, both as the inventor himself and as the legal mind involved in protecting IP.

Today’s episode features still life painter Sandra Busby. Based in East Sussex, Sandra didn’t take art seriously until her early 30s. Largely self-taught, she describes her style as ‘romantic truth’ because she takes what she loves about something and enhances that, while pushing back the qualities she doesn’t love. She paints the world as she likes to see it. A wife and working Mum, Sandra squeezes her painting in around her life. In this episode, she shares her journey rediscovering creativity, some of her creative routines and how she finds inspiration.

My guest today is Bonnie Grotjahn, a psychotherapist and recent improv theatre convert, who has had a very varied career. Originally from the US, Bonnie lived in Russia for 7 years before coming to the UK 17 years ago and is now based in Stroud in Gloucestershire. In this episode, she shares her recent exploration into long-form improv theatre and how she is planning on extending that and combining it with her interesting life history into a one-woman show. Bonnie also shares her tips for finding inspiration and dealing with the problem of having too many ideas.

Her background is quite mixed, and includes jewellery making, building work, music making and teaching as well as working for an environmental group. Today’s guest is Morwhenna Woolcock, the founder of The Creative Adventurer. Based in a little village between Bristol and Bath, Morwhenna helps people rediscover their creativity and sense of adventure for a richer life. She also works part time for a charity called Creative Works doing communications and marketing. In this episode we explore the many creative projects that Morwhenna has on the go, as well as how her health led her to rediscover her creativity in her 30s. She did it for herself but then realised she could use all the things she learned in these projects to help other people.
