The Hebrews author details the reality of the tabernacle and how defines present and points toward our future.

In Hebrews 8, we see that Jesus is better than the old covenant tabernacle and sacrificial system. Jesus has also inaugurated a new covenant that was the goal and telos of the old covenant. 

David cries out to the Lord even though he seems distant. Even though God feels like he is distant and does not come through, David remains confident in God's care.

We read Jeremiah's prophecy of the new covenant that the Hebrews writer inserts into his argument regarding how much better the new covenant is than the old one.

When Jesus instituted the Lord's Supper, he ushered in something that many had been waiting on and longed to see. He lets the world know that in his blood, the new covenant was finally being established. We, as Christians, are saved utterly and completely by the blood of Jesus. In the new covenant, God renews our hearts. In the taking of the Lord's Supper, the Christian is undergoing a covenant renewal each Sunday. 

Edom has attacked David and Israel. David sees this attack as God's judgment, and he goes back to prayer as the true answer for Israel's hope.

As the writer of Hebrews begins to tell his audience how Jesus is the Great High Priest, he goes back to Genesis 14 to talk about Melchizedek. But who is Melchizedek??

We can have true confidence, because God swore to us on his own character, that we who are in Christ Jesus have a mediator and the promise of eternal life.

The writer of Hebrews demonstrates how Jesus can be a high priest even though he is not from the tribe of Levi. He is a priest of even more significant order. He is a priest according to the order of Melchizedek. Melchizedek was a mysterious figure from the OT whom Abraham paid tithes to, making him greater than Abraham.
