We often come with our own narrative of what the Kingdom of God should look like, but God often does things differently than our reasonable and logical understanding of how things should be. And He doesn't dismiss the present need, but invites us to be part of the solution that He has planned.

The spiritual gifts that God gives us are manifestations of God's grace, given to us to build up the Body of Christ, the Church. All the gifts mentioned in the New Testament are only some of the gifts God may give us to serve each other and personally grow in the Lord.

In the scripture, it shows that Jesus is the agent through whom all things are and the representation of God to humanity. According to the Gospels, Jesus showed what it looks like when God is king, teaching and articulating God's grace and love for everyone.

The kingdom of God, Jesus was announcing, was not a place in Heaven where God rules or an occasional divine intervention. Though it's not of this world, it's purpose is for this world exactly. It is a time when God is in charge of everything as He designed it from the beginning.

The resurrection of Jesus isn't a wonderful ending to the story of Jesus and His crucifixion, but the beginning of something profoundly new. In the present time God is redeeming people, but when Christ comes back the second time, we will take part in God putting the rest of Creation right.
