When I reflect on life there's a huge element of wonder. It comes up as to how are we so different. Why is it that we, you and I are so different from everybody else when we come from essentially the same stuff. It’s probable that there are no two people who have ever been the same as you and I and probably never will be. Our uniqueness is quite amazing. So, let's reflect on that for a little bit in the context of the values that drive us.

There are many ways in which we do values. I would suggest that every single moment of our life has been a contributing part to the values that we have. The values are driven by the voids that we have experienced in our lives and the things we've perceived that we, we haven't got. We have a hierarchy of values and they're the filters that we do our life through. They are what we see everything through. In other words, our values are our projection onto the world.

Have you ever been distracted and taken off purpose? Distracted by other things? Those bright shiny objects.

Stuff that has low value but imposes on you. It can take over a well planned minute, hour or day. Your email list,your friends dropping by unexpectedly and on for a long chat. It could be your affectionate cat or child.

Maybe it is the easiest and least important things on your 'to-do' list that get your attention rather than the important but more difficult things.

You can still hear the calling of your purpose and no matter how faint at times that may be. Sometimes we have to take detours in order to get through and around obstacles. Sarah Trimmer said it this way. "Every living creature that comes into the world has something allotted to him to perform. Therefore, he should not stand an idle spectator or what others are doing".

Today, more than ever I think we have drifted to live our life vicariously. We've become great spectators and we worship the top performers, but we don't necessarily do much about our own performance. Be aware that you have been allotted something. You've been allotted a purpose, you've got a purpose there within you.

There was a Persian prophet and Sufi master by the name of Rumi who, had made some amazingly insightful statements in his life. One of these such profound statements is “there's one thing in this world which you must never forget to do”.

Rumi said that "human beings come into this world to do particular work. That work is their purpose and each is specific to the person. If you forget everything else and not this, there's nothing to worry about. If you remember everything else and forget your true work, then you will have done nothing in your life".
