Strong dialog is essential to a good script. If the dialog isn't tight and meaningful with purpose, then the character's strength suffers as well. We don't need a lot of dialog. It could be minimal as log as it's strong and purposeful.

We are in the business of taking risks. It can be scary to venture from what is safe, but safe isn't always what is best in this business. We have to be bold and take risks and to leave a lasting impression on our audience. If we don't. we are destined for mediocrity and that is horrifying and unacceptable.

There was a time when if you were an actor, That's what you did. You focused on being an actor, taking classes, audtioning, and getting work as an actor. Now with more and more people stepping out and taking control, and becoming independent filmmakers we find ourselves in a place where that focus is limiting our options.

Creatives sometimes forget this. Also, since this is a business we as indie filmmakers are certainly entrepreneurs. Just like giving up working for a corporation to start a business, the indie filmmaker is that entrepreneur.

We are all creative beings. Whatever we do is creative weather it's cooking, writing, drawing, music, filmmaking, or even thinking of creative ideas. Creativity is what life is.

We as adults lose our innocence and willingness to believe. We as creatives need to be able to re-discover that ability.

A film or story can certainly hinge on the arch of any character. It is sooo important to develop a strong character with a strong and meaningful arch throughout the story.

Fake it 'til you make it is a term we've all heard from time to time. The heart of this statement is essentially to believe that you will be where you want to be. There is also the tendency to put on airs as if we are someone in which we are not. Let's talk about being real here.

Anytime is a good time to shoot something. Experiment, test shots for a project, B-roll, establishing shots. Why not shot a 5 minute short with one simple location? Keep the creativity flowing.

Great films are made up of great moments which are driven by a great story with interesting characters.
