Kumail and Emily have been traveling like crazy, both together and separately, so this episode was recorded with the Indoor Kids at home discussing all the video game news that's fit to print. They also talk the games they've been playing while they were separated (Emily- Journey and Skullgirls, Kumail- Uncharted: Golden Abyss). Then at the end Kumail kinda freaks out from sleep deprivation.
Today we welcome back Devin Faraci, Badass in Chief at Badass Digest, to chow down a bit more on the big issue of narrative in gaming. What makes a game a game? Can video games fully master cultural relevance when you have to devote so much time to them? If you don't devote the time to them and just experience the story, are you a gamer? We don't really answer any of these questions, but we do talk about them a lot. Listen and then tell us what you think!
Bryan Lee O'Malley stops in to chat about his ode to video game culture, Scott Pilgrim, the games that inspired him, and of course, the movie. And trust us you guys, he's in deep. Along the way we talk about fashion and North Carolina too.
The Indoor Kids get smart and take a break from playing video games to read books about playing video games. Man, we read so many books. And then we compiled an awesome report to tell you guys about them. Reading about video games. Because we... are The Indoor Kids.
The Indoor Kids welcome Nick Ahrens (I am 8 bit) to enter the lair and discuss the entire Mass Effect franchise. We talk about the good, we talk about the bad, we talk about who has had sex with which people & what race they were. We also address the massive & epic ending controversy!
Today, Kumail and Emily welcome Dominic Dierkes (DERRICK Comedy, Workaholics) to talk about all kinds of hot topics in gaming. We'll discuss the PlayStation Vita (and compare it to a zoo animal), the recent scandal in the fighting game industry, and upcoming games we're looking forward to (HELLO MASS EFFECT 3!)
It’s another The Indoor Kids Livestravaganza as we invite Blair Herter (G4’s Attack of the Show, Feedback) & DC Pierson (Derrick Comedy, author of The Boy who Couldn’t Sleep & Didn’t Have To) to discuss such important topics as Parappa The Rappa, the Soul Calibur series & the worst roommates in gaming. And matchups! Bubsy vs. Alex Kidd! Sega Genesis vs. Super Nintendo! Plus, super special appearances by Matt Mira & Jessica Chobot!
Kevin Pereira (host of G4's Attack of the Show) comes in to talk about his gaming history, about running bulletin boards at 9, and about getting to 2nd base in a pizza restaurant at 12. At 12, you guys. His story should be made into a movie starring Matthew Broderick.
Isn't co-op gaming the best, especially when it's with friends and not with strangers who call you terrible words? This week, Blair Butler and Stephen Johnson of G4 join us to talk about co-op gaming throughout our lives, our loves, and how we all played Horde Mode together the night before the recording. Also, we promote Stephen's one man show, "Is the Bible Magic?" Then stay tuned for a Side Quest with Kumail and Emily doling out advice on the best games to play with your lovah... just in time for Valentine's Day!
Today Kumail and Emily welcome Jensen Karp, owner of Gallery 1988 and curator of all things pop culture, to discuss the games throughout our lives that have caused us to rethink how video games work. We also try and address the games that changed the gaming industry as a whole, but mostly we just talk about ourselves. Plus Jensen discusses his rap career, and Kumail and Emily wrap up their thoughts on Uncharted 3!
