It took Gloria more than 17 years to find forgiveness for her family and to find the strength within herself to face her trauma and overcome it. It also took her a lot of therapy, self-work, and dedication to transform her trauma into a blessing that she could pay forward. While there is always more to learn and always more self-growth possible. She is in a more comfortable place with her family, and what used to drag her down no longer does. With the help of her experiences, she hopes it won’t take you the same amount of time to process your traumas and find your way to forgiveness.

She held senior-level positions in child welfare, alcoholism treatment, and psychiatry. She was a lecturer on the clinical faculty at the University of California School of Medicine and executive director of a family service agency. Because some people shamed and harassed her after her bipolar illness surfaced, she kept it a secret for a long time while advancing in her career. Now, Marcia Naomi Berger has come out of the (mental health) closet with the publishing of The Bipolar Therapist: A Journey from Madness to Love and Meaning. Her earlier published books are Marriage Meetings for Lasting Love: 30 Minutes a Week to the Relationship You’ve Always Wanted, and Marriage Minded: An A to Z Dating Guide for Lasting Love.

She is holding special space in her practice specifically for interracial and inter-cultural couples who need support Claiming Each Other across divides rooted in historical, political, systemic or ancestral trauma. She loves to dance, grow and make food and medicine, write, connect with her circle of intimates and spend plenty of quiet contemplative time with spirit and Earth.
