The Mojave Desert is no stranger to high strangeness. A number of qualities lend the area no small amount of mystique to both the casual observer and the seasoned scientist. One of its most famous denizens is the Joshua Tree, an iconic plant species native only to that specific region of the world. The area of Kelso Dune Field is known for its “singing dunes’ which produce an eerie sound at 105 decibels.
