Reality Check: it takes 2 to make a marriage work. It also takes 2 to make a marriage fail. The blame and responsibility is not an even 50/50 split, so the question is, "Why did my marriage fail?"
This is what you must research! Counseling will help, but also utilize books, podcasts, and professionals to find out what you need to own in your divorce. This is tough work, but it's good work.
Here is one of the resources that really helped me understand where I fell short as a husband: https://a.co/d/fq94yb6

While many things about divorce are hurtful, creating a new family culture can be a joy of a fresh start. Be INTENTIONAL about the kind of family culture you build, don't let the culture happen accidentally. As a father, it is up to you to lead the family. See this season of divorce as a reset opportunity.

I advise professional counseling 100% to anyone going through a divorce (especially Intentional Fathers). While there is still a stigma about seeing a counselor, I promise it will only help you. Tune in as I share some of my own experiences from professional counseling.

When going through a divorce, it is tempting to speak ill of the people involved...ESPECIALLY your ex-wife. Don't do it! Preserve your integrity, the well-being of your children, and the honor of your ex-wife. I know this can be hard, but tune in and listen for the long-term win.

When you don't have 100% custody of your own children, you must be INTENTIONAL about how you father your children. Prioritize your parenting. Don't date or do extracurricular activities during the times you have custody. Don't get a babysitter. Be fully present and execute your intentional plan to raise your children to be successful adults.

Pick and choose your battles carefully while going through a divorce. It is easy to let the financial side of the legal battle determine your priorities but let custody of your children be the biggest determining factor.
