Two Pans and a Pot will inspire you through the story of a single dad who learned in the midst of his busy life to cook nutritious meals, teach healthy eating habits, and get physically fit. Barry has been a single father raising his son in New York City's Greenwich Village for the past 20 years. His career has spanned from the arts to an upstart trendy jewelry company and business management, before turning to his longtime passion - family, cooking and fitness. Early on, he discovered that food shopping and the aroma of food cooking in the house helped his son feel stable and secure. At six years old, Royal took an immediate interest in cooking ingredients, how they were used, and how they tasted. At that very early stage, Royal became his dad's sous chef. After high school, Royal attended and graduated from the Culinary Institute of America. He quickly surpassed Barry's cooking abilities and began teaching his dad. During his years on the line, Royal fell in love with locally grown ingredients and the sustainability movement. One summer, he worked on an organic farm and a farm-to-table restaurant in Nantucket, Mass. His passion led him back to school, where he recently graduated majoring in environmental studies. The recipes in the book are updated tried-and-true family favorites, along with new recipes Royal developed specifically to be simple, affordable and healthy. Single parenting allowed Barry to discover that cooking satisfying and healthy meals need not cost a fortune nor take excessive amounts of time away from his already hectic schedule. Barry felt compelled to chronicle his journey and highlight the benefits of feeding our children healthy, home-cooked meals and to inspire the chef within each of us.
