When people start to meditate, or work with any kind of spiritual discipline, they often think that somehow they're going to improve, which is sort of a subtle aggression against who they really are.

It's a bit like saying, If I jog, I'll be a much better person. If I could only get a nicer house, I'd be a better person. If I could meditate and calm down, I'd be a better person. Or, the scenario may be that they find fault with others. They might say, If it weren't for my husband, I'd have the perfect marriage.

If it weren't for the fact that my boss and I can't get on, my job would be just great. And if it weren't for my mind, my meditation would be excellent. But loving kindness toward ourselves doesn't mean getting rid of anything. It means that we can still be crazy after all these years. This is powerful.

In the essence that we are perfect exactly where we are in our lives currently. Whatever stress, whatever negatives, whatever resistance, whatever lack is in our lives, it is okay and it is meant to be here in this moment as a teacher for us. There's nothing wrong with us for undergoing these situations, for feeling these certain emotions."

On NYE, I spoke on how I wasn't celebrating the New Year in particular, yet how this is a potent energetic time. The energy of Capricorn is upon us, and we are on a wonderful precipice of the crowning- as a baby moves through the birth canal of the Mother, and the widest part of their skull begins to merge. The intensity, perseverance, and ultimate unknowingness of what will happen on the other side is ever present. For a better idea of what you may be witnessing, I invite you to contemplate what was real for you at the end of June, beginning of July. Enjoy this episode with insights on the Capricorn New Moon!

Let me share how i've been toggling with this understanding for 3 years, and this is the first year I'm not celebrating NYE or NY day. I thank my mentors and sisters who help me wash my eyes of these normalities, and my process of re-learning how to live sustainably with the world around me.  A large part of process is finding connection in nature, and using the Solstices and Equinoxes as celebratory points in my year, considering they are the alignment points of the seasons. For myself, it's been an internal battle of questioning WHY our “reality” (in this case what I perceive as mainstream media, marketing, the current government, etc) would condone the behavior or every “holiday” revolving around alcohol, making money off advertisements, and consuming a year's worth of sugar…. (no coincidences here kitty kats) The above three issues are unsustainable and only support escapism behavior from how one could instead honor the dark, cold, and slow Winter months in order to feel genuinely renewed come Spring! Maybe you feel out of alignment with creating a giant pledge to yourself to achieve “xyz” for the entire year, or as if you're not ready to “birth” anything new into this world.  If that resonates, you're not alone.
