Episode 8
It’s Called Theater Darling
Guest: Margaret Gorman
With Special appearance by Nevil Shortbottom, Pug extraordinaire
When my son stated he would be joining the theater program at school I steeled myself for bad renditions of a Charlie Brown Christmas or Romeo and Juliet . What I found was well run show with actors intent on providing the best performance they could, professional choreography, sound and lights happening right on que and at the heart of it all, Margaret Gorman.
The Evergreen High School Theater director is the vibrant beating heart of this program. Her passion for the students a key factor in sharing her years of knowledge and skill with them to inspire them to achieve some truly incredible work.
Margaret graduated from Hudson’s Bat High School in 1999 then proceeded to get a BA in French literature from Whitman College in 2004. She did her Theater post-bac work at Portland State University through 2009 and received her MAT with endorsements in theater and French through Willamette University in 2011
She's taught at North Salem High School, Hazelbrook Middle School, Tualatin High School, and The Ballroom Dance Company. She started teaching at Evergreen High School in 2015, with additional training through:
The Royal Shakespeare Company, Stratford-Upon-Avon in 2017 and the Broadway Teachers Workshop, New York City in 2018
Here is a list of the plays she's directed:
The Wizard of Oz
Greek Tragedy
Our Town
Romeo & Juliet
A collection of fractured fairy tales
Annie (two different productions)
Beauty and the Beast
The Three Musketeers
Oklahoma
Pride & Prejudice
Guys & Dolls
A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Margaret is a vibrant dynamo of a person who is force for good in the lives of the students she teaches.
Her Pug, Nevill Shortbottom, heard in this episode as the snore at about the midpoint, is also a student favorite and recently played Sandy in the EHS production of Annie.
