Here's why Brexit and a recession could be really exciting for entrepreneurs and business owners. It starts with people who have the right mindset and their approach to some new opportunities. I think people will start to slow down, they won't employ more people and they won't buy that property they were interested in. In all fairness, if I was buying a house to live in myself then maybe I would wait until January next year to ensure I got a better deal.

Our new Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has already mentioned a whole range of changes he wants to implement. Because of this, people will slow down on their decision making. You may recognise the famous saying; 'observe the masses and do the opposite'. With everyone else slowing down and holding off from their purchases you could see some great little opportunities for business owners and entrepreneurs who don't want to slow down.

In this episode of the James Sinclair Podcast we talk about the power of setting goals and why, generally speaking the most successful people have goals. It all starts with a powerful vision, what do you ultimately want? In business for example, it's very much like a rollercoaster. You will have a lot of ups and downs along the way and it's going to get rough, there is no way to avoid it, that's life. However, if you have a vision with an end in mind you know exactly where you're going and can focus on the right path towards your success, whatever that may look like for you.

Write your goals down when you start the day and when the sun goes down. Put a date on them and give yourself a deadline. I even have a list of my biggest goals for the year on my desk. I read them everyday.

Most people only set short term goals, which is definitely better than none at all but make sure those short term goals align with your vision and end in mind so you ensure you stay on the right path.

The big day! Our new Prime Minister has been announced and Boris Johnson is now in charge of writing the next chapter for UK government. Wherever you are in the political scale from left to right I don't care. I'm not here to preach any personal political beliefs but I do want to discuss what our government can do to help us entrepreneurs and small to medium sized businesses.

In this episode of The James Sinclair Podcast I have a read through my 2nd book 'The Experience Business' to go through my 'Investor-preneur' rules. For the uninitiated, let me briefly explain. Investors look for profit. Entrepreneurs are always looking for opportunities. Fuse the two together and we look for profitable opportunities. If you're a business owner who has been around the block you might already know that not every business venture is a success. Infact, some businesses make so much more money than others. That's just the way it is. Richard Branson once said that business opportunities are like buses, there is always another one coming. But we, as investor-preneurs can seek out those opportunities that will work for us. Here's some of my personal investor-preneur rules as mentioned in my 2nd book:

- Can I scale the business?

- Is the business capital intensive?

- Is there a chance for high price-tag profitable sales?

- Is there a chance for residual income?

- Is it a 'me too' business or one with high barrier to entry?

- Is there a margin the in the business?

- Will people want to buy it?

- How much capital will I need to scale the business up?

- Is there a need for the business?

- After the initial setup, will it be easy to find management?

Cashflow is businesses biggest weakness, if the cash flowing then business can keep going. We talk about price focused businesses like Lidl and Aldi compared to experience focused businesses like Apple, Harrods and Rolex. In this episode of The James Sinclair Podcast I discuss business competition and how to protect yourself. Here are some of my top tips; you simply can't avoid competition as it is what creates innovation. If you don't innovate you will evaporate. One way to stay ahead is to always be 10% better, make doing business with you 10% easier. Let's look at amazon for example, lots of people sell things online... but not at the efficiency and quality of service amazon provide. They are 10% (probably more) better than everyone else.

Make yourself as high barrier to entry as possible. If someone says they want to open an 8 bedroom hotel thats fine, but that is also something another person could easily do. What about opening a 500 bedroom hotel with a lazy river flowing through it and the largest penthouses available... whatever the details may be. This is VERY high barrier to entry and will eliminate almost all of your competition who can't keep up. Regulated businesses are also great. Like our day nurseries for example, ofsted immediately scares people away from even starting so we are already ahead.

In short, make business as easy as possible for your customers and they will love you. Overwhelm your customers with value and they won't look anywhere else.
