  • Vitruvian Book Review #23 "Man's Search for Meaning" by Viktor Frankl

By far one of the most important books I’ve ever read. “Man’s Search for Meaning” should be prescribed reading for almost every human being today. In this amazing book Viktor Frankl shares the results of his “logotherapy” as applied during his time in Nazi concentration camps.

He teaches the reader it’s about finding meaning in each individual moment in life and what our purpose is in these moments that leads us to a brighter future. I love this book, and I hope you will read it over and over as I have.

A book for finding purpose and strength in times of great despair, the international best-seller is still just as relevant today as when it was first published.“This is a book I reread a lot . . . it gives me hope . . . it gives me a sense of strength.”—Anderson Cooper, Anderson Cooper 360/CNNThis seminal book, which has been called “one of the outstanding contributions to psychological thought” by Carl Rogers and “one of the great books of our time” by Harold Kushner, has been translated into more than fifty languages and sold over sixteen million copies. “An enduring work of survival literature,” according to the New York Times, Viktor Frankl’s riveting account of his time in the Nazi concentration camps, and his insightful exploration of the human will to find meaning in spite of the worst adversity, has offered solace and guidance to generations of readers since it was first published in 1946. At the heart of Frankl’s theory of logotherapy (from the Greek word for “meaning”) is a conviction that the primary human drive is not pleasure, as Freud maintained, but rather the discovery and pursuit of what the individual finds meaningful. Today, as new generations face new challenges and an ever more complex and uncertain world, Frankl’s classic work continues to inspire us all to find significance in the very act of living, in spite of all obstacles.

A must-read companion to this classic work, a new, never-before-published work by Frankl entitled Yes to Life: In Spite of Everything, is now available in English.

  • "Iron Sharpening Iron" Meet my buddy James who quit his job, ended up on the James Altucher podcast and launched a life of purpose and mission.

    James Quandahl

So one day I’m listening to one of my favorite podcasts-The James Altucher Show. I assumed James was interviewing an author, neuroscientist or some other kind of big thinker who had done something notable enough to be on one of the most downloaded podcasts in the world.

Well, I was right. James Quandahl had left a successful career in retail management. He had no real plan. All he knew was his life was destined for more. He knew deep down he wanted to write, coach and speak. As I listened I realized I was listening to a fellow traveler through this matrix we call life. James wanted to step out of the matrix and into a life of his own design.

Near the end of the podcast James Altucher gave James Quandahl the opportunity to make an ask of the audience. He told anyone listening that day he was starting a podcast. If anyone wanted to be on it, just e mail him. He then shared his e mail with most likely over a million people. I was one in a million. My mother had always told me that. In this instance it actually mattered.

I emailed James. I gave a brief lowdown on how I, like him, wanted to create content, live a life of purpose and thought a conversation would be mutually beneficial. He took the bait. We scheduled what was to become the first of a now regular call between the two of us. What was supposed to be a brief intro call with no real agenda turned into almost three hours of what I call “iron sharpening iron.” This from a verse found in the Bible that reads, “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17

And it was there we decided one of these conversations needed to be recorded. We as humans need to sharpen one another. Conversations like the ones James and I have are absolutely imperative to becoming the best versions of ourselves. What you are about to listen to is not two guys who have it all figured out. Quite the contrary…we are two guys together endeavoring to figure things out.

I plan to offer up more such episodes with other sharpers of iron. I think this will prove to be one of the most meaningful segments of the Jason Wright Show I offer. Please tune in to these and all others. I’m sincerely grateful for you being a part of this journey. And to my buddy James..thank you brother. Your encouragement means the world to me. Here’s to many more iron sharpening sessions.

  • Episode 82 “Redefining Anxiety” with Dr. John Delony

    Dr. John Delony

Anxiety is real — but it isn’t the end of your story.

Dr. John Delony knows what anxiety feels like. He’s walked that dark road himself, but he found light and hope on the other side of it. Bringing together his own journey and two decades of counseling and research, he walks you through:

    * The four biggest myths about anxiety and the life-changing truth* Practical steps you can take today to start getting your life back* Long-term strategies for healing to help you move forward

John will show you that most of what you’ve heard about anxiety is wrong. Things like:

    * If you have anxiety, you’re broken and need to be fixed.* Anxiety is a disease that can only be cured with medicine.* Anxiety is caused by your genetics.

While mental health is complex, our culture has made anxiety into something it’s not. For the majority of people who face anxiety, the truth is simpler than we think: Anxiety is an alarm. It’s a signal — nothing more and nothing less. Anxiety is simply our body’s way of telling us something is wrong. If we stop and listen, we can calm the alarm and move forward into healing and hope.

I had so much fun visiting with my fellow Texan and author John Delony. I highly encourage you to pick up a copy of “Redefining Anxiety” HERE. You can also checkout my BOOK REVIEW on my YouTube Channel, and I hope you do.

  • Vitruvian Book Review-“Bliss Brain” by Dawson Church

Award Winner in the Science category of the 2020 Best Book Awards sponsored by American Book Fest

Award-winning author and thought leader Dawson Church, Ph.D., blends cutting-edge neuroscience with intense firsthand experience to show you how you can rewire your brain for happiness-starting right now.

Neural plasticity-the discovery that the brain is capable of rewiring itself-is now widely understood. But what few people have grasped yet is how quickly this is happening, how extensive brain changes can be, and how much control each of us has over the process. In Bliss Brain, famed researcher Dawson Church digs deep into leading-edge science, and finds stunning evidence of rapid and radical brain change. In just eight weeks of practice, 12 minutes a day, using the right techniques, we can produce measurable changes in our brains. These make us calmer, happier, and more resilient. When we cultivate these pleasurable states over time, they become traits. We don’t just feel more blissful as a temporary state; the changes are literally hard-wired into our brains, becoming stable and enduring personality traits. The startling conclusions of Church’s research show that neural remodeling goes much farther than scientists have previously understood, with stress circuits shriveling over time. Simultaneously, “The Enlightenment Circuit”-associated with happiness, compassion, productivity, creativity, and resilience-expands.During deep meditation, Church shows how “the 7 neurochemicals of ecstasy” are released in our brains. These include anandamide, a neurotransmitter that’s been named “the bliss molecule” because it mimics the effects of THC, the active ingredient in cannabis. It boosts serotonin and dopamine; the first is an analog of psilocybin, the second of cocaine. He shows how cultivating these elevated emotional states literally produces a self-induced high. While writing Bliss Brain, Church went through a series of disasters, including escaping seconds ahead of a California wildfire that consumed his home and office and claimed 22 lives. The fire triggered a painful medical condition and a financial disaster. Through it all, Church steadily practiced the techniques of Bliss Brain while teaching them to thousands of other people. This book weaves his story of resilience into the fabric of neuroscience, producing a fascinating picture of just how happy we can make our brains, no matter what the odds.

  • Episode 78 Dr. Michael Eades, NY Times Best Selling Author and Pioneer Of Low Carb Eating

Michael R. Eades was born in Springfield, Missouri on June 19, 1947. He received his BSCE degree in Civil Engineering from California Polytechnic University (Cal Poly), Pamona, California in 1970 and his MD from the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences (UAMS) in 1979. After completing training in General Surgery as UAMS, Dr. Eades (along with his wife) founded Medi-Stat Medical Clinics, a chain of general family medicine outpatient care centers in central Arkansas, where he practiced general family medicine for over a decade.

In 1989, Dr. Eades wrote Thin So Fast (Warner Books), a health and nutrition book detailing how to safely undertake a modified protein sparing fast (such as Oprah Winfrey had used to lose her famous 67 pounds of fat) at home, with minimal expense.

This is a great episode where we cover COVID, accessing the risk of taking the vaccine and a host of other topics. NOTE: Neither I nor Dr. Eades are making any suggestions as to whether or not one should take the COVID vaccine. I’m trying to help listeners assess all the data by asking Dr. Eades some questions. Dr. Eades has spent his career working in the life sciences so I wanted his take.

Please consider signing up for his newsletter “The Arrow” at ProteinPower.Com
