In 1991, she played Nurse Helen Caldwell in the comedy film Delirious. In 1993 she was cast on the science fiction television series Babylon 5 as telepath Talia Winters.

Early in her acting career, Franklin appeared in TV commercials for Coca-Cola, Trident, Jell-O, and Maxwell House coffee. Kim Hopkins is the daughter of comedian George Hopkins and is now following in her fathers footsteps as a comedian herself, as she promised in an interview with the New York Times at the age of 3.

Kim started modeling and acting at the age of 2 1/2 in New York working with the Marge McDermott Agency and photographer Bert Stern, she was on the cover of Mc Calls magazine at the age of 3 and an Ivory baby in the Ivory soap commercials. Kim was the top child model in New York until she moved to Los Angeles at the age of 12.
