I was raised culturally Christian but always felt spirit

in a language bigger than what I was taught.

After a wild youth, ministry, and years of searching —

here's what I know:

God is real. Just not the God any of us learned about.

We have imperfect language for something we could

never possibly understand.

This tension lives in my new song Modern Devotion —

especially the third verse.

My dad passed away on New Year’s Day after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Music was always our connection. He taught me to play guitar and sing harmony. After losing him, I found myself returning to the simplest version of that connection… just me, an acoustic guitar, and my voice.

This episode is a reflection on grief, restorative practice, and what it means to keep showing up, even when it’s messy.

Part of the Dharma Artist Collective’s theme on restorative practice, this piece explores the idea that an honest take is better than a good one… and that sometimes three hours of failure can lead to a few minutes of something real.

Today I’m sharing a simple 5-minute box breathing practice that’s been grounding for me.

The breath follows a steady 4–4–4–4 rhythm: inhale, hold, exhale, hold.

This is something you can return to anytime you need to slow down, reset, and reconnect with your breath.
