In the first half hour,Osher Kraut remembers Sheldon Oberman (teacher, author, filmmaker, playwright. freelance journalist, and lyricist) Sheldon was born in Winnipeg  in 1949,  passed away in Winnipeg in 2004. Osher will be reading excerpts from his children's book, The Always Prayer Shawl.

Summer is the time for festivals.  This weekend The Winnipeg Folk Festival is celebrating 50 years.  One of the groups participating is The Black Sea Station.

The Black Sea Station is made up of 5 virtuoso musicians.  Three of them  Daniel Koulack (bass), Victor Schultz (violin), and Myron Schultz (clarinet) — co-founders of the  local klezmer group Finjan are well known in the Jewish music scene here. They are joined by  Moldovan accordion wizard Nikolai Prisacar and multi-instrumentalist Ben Mink, The group plays  traditional and original melodies rooted in  the traditions of Klezmer and Rumanian music.
