All of us at The Jewish Radio Hour would like to express our sincere condolences to Larry Vickar and the Vickar Family on the recent passing of Tova. The Vickars have been loyal and longtime supporters of this radio show.
Tova was a kind, generous and caring woman who did so much for our community and beyond. She was a true Eyshet Chayil - Woman of valour. May her memory be a blessing.
This week on the first half hour, Rochelle Zucker's guest is Shira Newman, the founder and producer of the Put A Yid On It! Festival Of New Yiddish Culture. Jewish Radio is a Winnipeg Institution predating many of the others.
It was started almost 80 years ago by Moshe Cantor, continued by Noah (Noyakh) Witman. After Witman's death, for almost 20 years, until his retirement in 2019, Sid Halpern served as Executive Producer. He was the "neshome" - the heart and soul of The Jewish Radio Hour. It was a labour of love. As well as hosting interesting and informative programs, he organized things and secured financing so we could continue. The show is hosted by a group of volunteers. We are not supported by The Jewish Federation but are an integral part of The Community keeping our rich culture and Heritage very much alive.
