In this episode Joanne addresses a fascinating question about micro movement, from a Myofascial Magic in Action course participant. She unpacks why daily micro movements can lead to such significant improvements in wellbeing, explaining this phenomenon through the key concepts of challenge, courage, and care.
Could it be that these small, mindful movements can serve our wellbeing as much (if not more than) the grand physical achievements we might strive to achieve? Is this the missing link in understanding myofascia applied? How exactly does the body’s natural ability to self-organize link to overall health? What can we learn from Joanne’s elegant 85 year old mother...?
And, most importantly, given the knowledge of the fascia matrix behind the work, how can these subtle practices transform our health and human performance?
Let’s find out!

In this episode Joanne and Paul explore the evolution of movement science, emphasising the non-linear, self-organising nature of human bodies. With a delightful blend of historical anecdotes, personal stories, and foundational research, they challenge the traditional biomechanical approach to human movement.
Joanne reveals how an 18th century mechanical duck offers insights into why we’ve long thought mechanically about the human body (and we all know Joanne’s NOT a fan of this approach!), while Paul passionately argues for the immense benefits of using intuitive, fascia-based movement practice over conventional exercise protocols.
PLUS, Joanne gives you a sneak peek into her yet-to-be-published book, ‘Myofascial Magic in Action’.
So listen in for a deep, thought-provoking conversation that might just change how you think about movement (and ducks) forever. Enjoy!

This week’s podcast with yoga teachers Calli Popham and Jessica Sullivan is all about tending - and teaching - with tenderness.
We explore Calli’s distinctions of an embodied yoga approach and the value of moving away from more traditional alignment paradigms towards a more intuitive practice. And Jessica shares her personal transformative experience during her post-partum recovery, which Calli tenderly helped her through.
The conversation really highlights the importance of “tending with tenderness” to ourselves, and those we teach and learn from.

How honest is your cueing? In this episode Paul and Joanne talk about “honest cueing” and “honest movement”. They explain why it's essential to “cue from the heart in your own way”, in a fascinating and thought-provoking chat...
From pacing around like an agitated cat, to presenting on stage (and all the in between of cueing well in class), Joanne and Paul share many open-hearted stories and passionately argue for why cueing is *such* a key to magical movement! Enjoy!

In this week’s episode I interview Dinah Siman, a wonderful multi-talented teacher who practices Pilates, Yoga and Gyrotonic™, and has made her name in recent years by specialising in Menopause Pilates. Now also an author, Dinah aims to impassion movement teachers to celebrate menopause and give confidence to support students during this transformative phase.
We talk about both the history and the current understanding of menopause, Dinah generously shares her own journey, and I especially love her thoughts about the opportunities menopause can offer if it's well understood and well supported.
Regardless of your personal practice or what you teach, this book truly is written from the heart and designed to give everyone a sense of confidence and well-being in what can be a difficult time to navigate. Written with Dinah’s lively sense of humour and backed by science (but not loaded to be a ‘heavy read’) we get to chat about how the book works, why it felt so important to write, and why it’s a must-buy for anyone who is (or works with) women in movement!! So I really hope you enjoy this conversation and find a lot of value in it.

This episode is inspired by important questions we’re very often asked by movement teachers about cueing and language.
So... What exactly do we all mean by the word Stretch? Or Stabilise? Or Strengthen? Or Stiffen? Is Stress always a bad thing, or can it actually be a good thing sometimes? We explore each word and its implications, as well as how we can use them wisely….or not so wisely!!
Again and again, we hear these 5 ‘S words’ come up, regardless of the particular modality a teacher is using, whether it is Pilates, or Yoga or 5 Rhythms, or Dance or Personal Training or Martial Arts - whatever you may teach. It’s crucial to consider these words carefully in order to enhance how the practice, whatever it is, makes sense to the person you are teaching. And of course, Cueing, Seeing, and Guiding clients well requires us to use a language THEY understand….this is not so much a formula as a discussion about the ingredients!!
Hopefully there’s some important food for thought here for you, to enhance the delicious movements you already create for the people you work with…Enjoy!

In this episode Joanne talks to Wil Brown, the founder of London Movement Group. Wil is all about experiencing life via physical exploration, in action. He sees his job as “sharing what I figure out…” and has gained tens of thousands of fans following his lively and committed approach to playful movement.
Joanne and Wil talk about their respective experiences and how, through exploring very different routes to movement methods and approaches, they agree entirely on such things as the importance of recovery time - and playfulness!! Movement is not (and can’t be) an intellectual process, so it’s a rich ground to explore the sensory nature of moving well - for the love of it - even in the most ordinary moments of your day…. Finding everyday ease and grace is a thing, right?
We hope you enjoy this conversation!!

Myofascial Magic in Action is not a method – it’s a standard available for all the different methods we teach and learn in movement. It raises the game around the difference we can make to ourselves and our clients, whatever modality we choose.
Focusing particularly on Yoga and Pilates, we make the important distinction between “delicious” bespoke movement and "fast food" one-size-fits-all movement... We also share stories about the highlights and lowlights of teaching - see if you recognise your own experiences here!
We hope you enjoy hearing how we rate the Michelin Star movement experiences we’ve loved, and that some of our comments will cause that magical laughter of recognition to light you up with a smile!
Thank you for being here,
Joanne and Paul

In this episode Paul and Joanne respond to a question they received about the value of Neural Flossing or Spinal Flossing. The question “to floss or not to floss?” is one worth considering – and even if you disagree, this conversation might expand the questions you ask!
Joanne wasn’t entirely sure what the term meant, so by asking Paul, this conversation unfolded. It isn’t intended to ruffle any feathers or diminish the work of very well-intentioned therapists, but we do challenge the notion of how valuable “flossing” is - by the interpretation we use. In any event, it is super clear that the value of micromovements might just provide a simpler answer to the problems that “flossing” is intended to resolve... See what you think!
