The state of California on Saturday released a list of 41 candidates running in the recall election against Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom on Sept. 14 and to his surprise, Elder wasn't on it. That's because California Secretary of State Dr. Shirley Weber and her "candidate filing and election night reporting team" said Elder didn't qualify due to "Incomplete redacted and/or unredacted income tax returns that were filed."

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has made his selection of five Republicans to join the committee investigating  the insurrection on January 6: Jim Banks of Indiana, Jim Jordan of Ohio, Rodney Davis of Illinois, Kelly Armstrong of North Dakota and freshman Troy Nehls of Texas: Banks, Jordan and Nehls were among the 139 House Republicans who voted to overturn the 2020 presidential results in Arizona and Pennsylvania. Davis and Armstrong voted to certify the presidential election.

The Delta variant of COVID-19 is now the dominant strain worldwide, accompanied by a surge of deaths around the country almost entirely among unvaccinated people.
