Now that the increase to Ontario’s minimum wage has arrived, the owners of a Tim Hortons in Cobourg, Ont., are drawing criticism for their cost-cutting measures. A note sent to employee’s states that paid breaks will be eliminated and benefit coverage will be cut by 50%. An employee told the CBC that with these new measures, “their biweekly paycheque will actually be $51 dollars lower than it was before the minimum wage hike.”

We’ve been speaking about the rise in the minimum wage this morning and mostly been focusing on the businesses in Ontario that are changing prices, cutting benefits and introducing cost saving measures in order to meet their bottom line.  British Columbia is on track to raise the minimum wage so how will local businesses respond to these changes?
