Should young female hockey players be restricted to playing on female-only teams? At the VIAHA annual general meeting this weekend, a motion will be introduced that encourages minor hockey clubs on Vancouver Island to form a girls only hockey team if there are 12 or more females registered in an age group. Right now many young girls play on boys teams or on mixed gender teams and it is believed “girls only” hockey is at a risk of disappearing.

Grace McCarthy has passed away at the age of 89.  Called “Amazing Grace,” she was the leader of the Social Credit Party in BC from 1993 to 1994, and was also an MLA from 1975 to 1991.  The Vancouver Sun's Vaughn Palmer is here with his take on the day's headlines.

The public input period for the City of Vancouver’s new logo has closed, and the group Graphic Designers of Canada is pleased with the amount of feedback it has received.

“I’m actually really delighted to see a learned audience that’s passionate about their city, that they wish it to be represented in the best vehicle and means possible and their not afraid to voice their concerns and to bring that up. And I think that’s telling to a learned audience, a respectful audience and also a proud citizenship which I don’t think we get enough opportunities to see,” says B.C. chapter President Jonathon Strebly.

Think the B.C. election is over?  Not so fast.  The NDP is thinking about asking for a judicial recount in Richmond Queensborough, won by Liberal Jas Johal by 134 votes over New Democrat Aman Singh.

Premier Christy Clark has indicated she wants to form government, even though the final vote count by Elections BC leaves her Liberals with 43 seats, 1 short of a majority.
The NDP finished with 41 seats and the Green Party holds the balance of power with 3.
