After months of speculation, we finally have a little bit of a peek into how much, if any, income tax President Donald Trump has been paying. Two pages of Trump’s 2005 income tax form was apparently mailed unsolicited to Pulitzer prize-winning journalist David Cay Johnston, and aired yesterday by MSNBC’s Rachael Maddow. The documents show the president made more than 150-million in 2005, and paid 38-million in income taxes that year.

As Toronto grapples with similar real estate woes as Vancouver, the city is debating implementing a foreign buyer's tax similar to Vancouver’s. However, a new report from Ryerson’s City Building Institute says much like in Vancouver, a foreign buyer’s tax alone won’t be enough. SFU’s Josh Gordon authored the study and says while the foreign buyer’s tax did calm Vancouver’s market but suggests implementing a surtax for those who own property and live off “foreign sources of income.” Would something like that work in Vancouver?

What a busy week for BC Politics! With the Election just under two months away Christy Clark is attempting to defuse criticisms surrounding political donations, after her Liberal Party collected $12-million in party funding last year. Clark introduced an “independent panel” to review party finances...but they’ll do so with the approval of the government, every eight years, after this election, and if Clark gets re-elected. Many are saying this is not enough to address the political donation scandal, and that campaign financing needs to be regulated. Back in 1972 campaign financing was regulated in Washington state after citizens voted for the switch, could something like that happen in BC?
