The best way I can describe motherhood is the ultimate personal development course. It has been my greatest undoing to date. Everything that has informed my identity in the past has been challenged. These are my three top lessons so far.

I wasn’t always comfortable in my own company. I remember when I was thinking about leaving an emotionally abusive relationship I was scared that I’d never find love again. My biggest fear was being lonely. What if I never found love again?

There is a difference between being alone and lonely. One is empowering the other simply isn’t. I want you to know that if in your journey you have worries about being ‘alone’ this can actually be an empowering and liberating experience. Let me explain why.

I've learned on the journey that as you practice self-love, you will grow and transform. Sometimes that means outgrowing old friendships, leaving people behind or realising that a friend of yours no longer aligns with who you are.

Breakups are tricky enough when it comes to intimate relationships. There's the heartache, need for closure and the awkwardness of actually making it happen.

So, what do you do when the person you need to breakup with is a toxic friend?

Self-love. I feel like every gal wants to experience self-love. Everywhere we look there is someone telling us how to love ourselves. But, how do you do it? I sat down to ask Amber Reid how she learned to love herself after her experience with emotional abuse.
